Lasaanood (KAAB TV) – President Abdiqadir Ahmed Ali, widely known as Firdhiye, the elected leader of the SSC-Khatumo administration in North East Somalia, has officially appointed a new Council of Ministers consisting of 21 members.

The announcement was made via a presidential decree issued from his office in Lasaanood.

Among the newly appointed ministers is one woman, while the rest include sitting Members of Parliament and individuals who previously served in ministerial roles within the Puntland administration.

A number of returning ministers from the former SSC-Khatumo administration have also been reinstated in this new cabinet lineup.

In a statement accompanying the announcement, President Firdhiye emphasized that the selection of ministers was based on the goal of forming an inclusive, community-driven government that reflects the diversity and political experience within the SSC-Khatumo region.

He stated that the cabinet represents a blend of political backgrounds to ensure effective governance and stability.

However, the formation of the cabinet was not without challenges. Prior to the official appointments, reports emerged of internal disagreements between President Firdhiye and his Vice President, Abwan Abdirashid, regarding the distribution of ministerial portfolios.

According to sources close to the presidency, the dispute was ultimately resolved through internal negotiations, allowing the leadership to move forward with a united front.

While the primary cabinet positions have been filled, the appointments of deputy ministers and key administrative officials have yet to be finalized.

These additional roles are expected to be announced in the coming days as the government structure continues to take shape.

The newly appointed ministers are expected to be sworn into office today. Most of them are currently present in Lasaanood, the administrative capital of the SSC-Khatumo region, where the ceremony will take place.

This marks a significant step in consolidating governance and institutional stability in the region, following recent political developments and the push for greater autonomy by the SSC-Khatumo administration.

LASAANOOD (KAAB TV) – Authorities in North East Somalia have arrested Mohamed Jabuutawi, a prominent businessman and former presidential candidate, following violent clashes that occurred during the recent regional elections.

Jabuutawi, who had been disqualified from running in the presidential race due to failing to meet electoral eligibility requirements, was reportedly arrested on suspicion of involvement in organizing an armed attack on security forces. The incident took place at the hotel where the election proceedings were underway and led to multiple casualties, including both deaths and injuries.

According to local sources, the violence broke out when a group of armed men, allegedly angered by the disqualification of certain candidates including Jabuutawi, confronted security personnel. The attack escalated into a deadly confrontation, raising alarm across the region and prompting a swift response from the authorities.

In a bid to defuse tensions and demonstrate accountability, local traditional leaders intervened and handed Jabuutawi over to the security forces. This came after an arrest warrant had already been issued for him. Although Jabuutawi initially resisted cooperating with law enforcement, he eventually complied following the intervention of elders from his community.

A video circulated on social media shows these traditional elders publicly calling on Jabuutawi to surrender to authorities and urging a peaceful resolution to the conflict. The elders also appealed for justice on behalf of the victims who lost their lives in the unrest — some of whom reportedly have not yet been buried due to ongoing disputes.

The elders emphasized that no individual, regardless of their status or influence, would be allowed to destabilize the region. They reaffirmed their commitment to working closely with security agencies to maintain peace and order.

Mohamed Jabuutawi is a well-known figure in Qadaka and has played a significant role in the political and economic development of the region. He was previously involved in supporting the now-defunct SSC Khatumo administration and is also recognized as an armed merchant, allegedly in possession of military vehicles and a private militia.

The North East Somalia Police Force confirmed that Jabuutawi is one of seven suspects detained in connection with the events of August 29. Authorities also revealed that two additional suspects remain at large. Security officials have issued a stern warning, stating that if the remaining individuals do not surrender voluntarily, they will be pursued and arrested.

The government has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy toward violence and election-related unrest, vowing to bring all perpetrators to justice in accordance with the law.

LASAANOOD (KAAB TV) – The President of the North East Administration, Abdulqadir Ahmed Aw Ali, commonly known as Firdhiye, has officially launched a voter registration campaign in the city of Lasaanood. The move is seen as a significant step toward greater political participation and representation for the people of the region within Somalia’s federal system.

Speaking at the launch event, President Firdhiye called on all eligible citizens to register and take part in shaping their future by electing capable and responsible leaders.

“Our people must step forward, organize themselves, and register in large numbers. It is time we align ourselves with other regional authorities recognized by the Federal Government of Somalia,” said President Firdhiye. “I have full confidence that the people of the North East will make a meaningful impact in the upcoming national elections.”

He emphasized that voter registration is not only a civic duty but also a pathway toward gaining formal recognition and influence within the broader Somali political structure.

The registration campaign comes on the heels of a controversial leadership election held last Saturday, in which President Firdhiye assumed office through an indirect voting process. Allegations have since emerged that large sums of money were used to influence newly appointed Members of Parliament during that election. Critics argue that the legitimacy of the process remains in question.

Observers note that the timing of this initiative is particularly complex. With only eight months remaining in President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s term, the federal government faces increasing pressure from both internal opposition coalitions and the persistent threat posed by Al-Shabaab militants, who continue to control large portions of the country.

Political analysts have raised concerns over how credible and inclusive elections can be conducted under such circumstances. The combination of a disputed regional administration, limited time before the next federal election, and ongoing security challenges has cast doubt on the feasibility of the voter registration effort translating into meaningful democratic progress.

Nonetheless, the North East Administration appears committed to pursuing greater political integration and legitimacy through this voter registration initiative.

Lasaanood (KAAB TV) – In a significant political development, the city of Lasaanood, the capital of the Sool region, hosted a parliamentary election today for the chairmanship of the newly formed legislative body of the Northeastern Somalia administration.

Dr. Adan Abdullahi Aw-Hasan emerged victorious, securing 53 votes, while his opponent garnered 29, according to an official announcement by the Transitional Chair of the Assembly of Representatives. Dr. Aw-Hasan hails from the Ayr sub-clan of the Hawiye, specifically the Fiqishini community. He is widely recognized as a candidate backed by the Federal Government of Somalia and aligned with the influential Firdhiye political faction—an alignment that is expected to play a decisive role in the upcoming presidential race.

Following the election of the speaker, the parliamentary body is now in the process of electing its deputy chairpersons. These appointments are anticipated to be completed within the day, thus finalizing the leadership of the House of Representatives.

This swift formation of the legislative body is part of a broader effort to solidify the political foundations of the emerging Northeastern Somalia administration. With the parliamentary leadership now nearly in place, all eyes are turning to the presidential election, which is expected to be a competitive contest featuring prominent and influential candidates.

The Federal Government of Somalia, particularly the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation, is actively involved in overseeing and supporting the political reconstruction process in Lasaanood. Their ongoing presence in the region underscores the significance of this new political initiative.

According to reliable sources, the electoral process is being directed by a high-level federal envoy with strong ties to Mogadishu’s inner political circles. That figure is Abdulkadir Firdhiye, a prominent leader who recently joined the ruling party established by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. Firdhiye, who once held the interim leadership of this new administration, is now considered the federal government’s favored candidate for the upcoming presidency.

The vice presidency is reportedly set to be filled by Abdirashid Jibril, the former Speaker of the Puntland Parliament. Originally from the Sanaag region, Jibril recently broke ranks with Puntland’s leadership and launched a serious political campaign within Northeastern Somalia.

This administration, however, did not arise in a vacuum. Its formation follows a prolonged and bloody conflict in the region, marked by political strife, shifting alliances, and military confrontations. The crisis ultimately gave birth to this new entity now referred to as the Administration of Northeastern Somalia.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, the federal government’s role in shaping outcomes in Lasaanood remains both strategic and controversial, raising important questions about federal influence, local legitimacy, and the future balance of power in Somalia.

LASAANOOD (KAAB TV) – This morning, the town of Lascaanood is at the center of a significant political development, as it hosts the much-anticipated election for the Speaker of the Parliament and deputy positions for the emerging North East Somalia administration.

According to the Electoral Commission, five candidates have been officially nominated. Of these, two are vying for the role of Speaker, while the remaining three are competing for the two deputy speaker positions. This election is being closely observed across the region due to its potential influence on the forthcoming presidential race, which is expected to shape the future of governance in North East Somalia.

The broader effort to establish a functioning regional administration in the North East is nearing its final phase. The Federal Government of Somalia has made it clear that the transition will be considered complete once a president has been formally elected. That milestone would mark the official end of the transitional political period and the beginning of a recognized and stable regional government.

President Firdhiye, who currently leads the transitional administration, is believed to have strong backing from the Federal Government. He is actively campaigning to secure another term, asserting that his continued leadership is essential during this critical stage. Observers note that Firdhiye has positioned himself as the most experienced and suitable candidate to steer the new administration forward.

The announcement of the new parliamentary members has been met with rare political calm. No major disputes or disagreements have arisen from the candidate list, and all nominees have been generally accepted by the newly formed council, suggesting a growing sense of unity—or at least political pragmatism—within the regional leadership.

However, the administration still faces significant challenges. One of the most pressing issues is the status of Sanaag Bari, a strategic and resource-rich region currently under the control of Puntland. Control over Sanaag Bari is crucial for the legitimacy and territorial integrity of the new North East administration.

In a recent and potentially destabilizing development, senior traditional leaders from the Warsangeli clan, a dominant group in Sanaag, publicly voiced their rejection of the new administration. Their opposition is likely to complicate efforts to expand the authority of the North East leadership into the area.

Meanwhile, Puntland has responded assertively by deploying additional troops to the Sanaag region, a move seen as a direct attempt to block the expansion and influence of the North East administration. This militarization raises concerns about potential conflict, underscoring the fragile and tense nature of the political transition.

As Lascaanood plays host to this critical parliamentary election, the eyes of both regional actors and the broader Somali public remain fixed on the unfolding developments. The outcomes of today’s vote will not only determine parliamentary leadership but will also set the tone for the highly anticipated presidential election and the long-term viability of the North East administration.

Lasaanood (KAAB TV) – Presidential candidates vying for leadership of the newly formed Northeast Somalia administration have issued a joint statement denouncing what they describe as unconstitutional interference by the Federal Government of Somalia in the formation of the region’s new parliament. The primary target of their criticism is the Minister of Interior, Ali Yusuf Ali (commonly known as Ali Hoosh), whom they accuse of bias and political manipulation.

In their official press release, the candidates expressed strong disapproval of the committee established by the Interior Ministry to verify and approve members of the new regional parliament. They argue that the committee was formed without constitutional legitimacy and without consultation with local stakeholders, thereby undermining the democratic process.

“The Minister of Interior is actively supporting a specific candidate and steering the administrative formation process toward a predetermined outcome,” the statement read. “Such actions undermine the integrity of the political process, fuel division, and could lead to communal conflict.”

The candidates warned that the minister’s actions risk damaging the fragile political trust among local communities and may erode the confidence of the international community in Somalia’s decentralization efforts. They firmly stated that they will not recognize or accept an electoral process that is skewed to favor any particular candidate, nor one that is not based on genuine political consensus and dialogue with key local stakeholders.

This emerging political crisis adds another layer of complexity to the already contentious birth of the Northeast Somalia administration. Puntland, a neighboring federal member state, has strongly rejected the formation of the new administration, asserting that the territory in question falls under its jurisdiction. Puntland officials have accused the Federal Government of violating the Somali constitution by forcibly involving itself in a region they claim is not yet politically mature enough for formal elections.

Meanwhile, Somaliland has also condemned the creation of the Northeast Somalia administration, calling it an infringement on its claimed territorial boundaries. Officials in Hargeisa have labeled the development as illegal and provocative.

Despite the mounting opposition, the Northeast Somalia administration was officially inaugurated on July 30, 2025, during a large gathering held in Lasaanood. At that meeting, delegates formally ratified the constitution of the new administration, marking a significant milestone in its establishment.

As political tensions escalate, it remains unclear how the federal government, Puntland, and Somaliland will navigate the emerging power dynamics in the region. The coming weeks may prove critical in determining the stability and legitimacy of the Northeast Somalia administration.

LASAANOOD (KAAB TV) – Developments continue to unfold from the ongoing meetings in Lascaanood, where intellectuals, community leaders, and local authorities are engaged in high-level discussions to formalize the establishment of the SSC-Khatumo regional administration.

In recent hours, the delegates have engaged in in-depth debates regarding several foundational aspects of the new administration. Key topics under discussion include the official name of the regional government, the design and symbolism of its flag, the designation of Lascaanood as its capital, and the framework for power-sharing between the executive (the presidency) and the legislative (parliamentary) branches.

These deliberations are expected to continue throughout the day, with participants working toward a unified vision and the announcement of concrete outcomes. According to sources close to the meeting, official decisions and public declarations are anticipated soon.

The Federal Government of Somalia, particularly the Ministry of Interior, has expressed its support for these discussions. Minister of Internal Affairs, Ali Hoosh, has reportedly held several meetings with local intellectuals and elders from the Sool and Sanaag regions. These meetings aim to foster dialogue, promote reconciliation, and guide the smooth formation of the SSC-Khatumo administration in areas currently experiencing both administrative vacuum and territorial disputes.

However, the process has not been without opposition. The regional governments of Somaliland and Puntland have both rejected the legitimacy of SSC-Khatumo, each asserting territorial claims over areas included in the proposed administration. These rival claims have added political tension to an already complex situation, raising concerns about future stability and the risk of further conflict if a consensus is not reached.

Despite these challenges, the leaders in Lascaanood remain committed to establishing a locally accepted and federally recognized regional administration that reflects the aspirations of the people in the disputed territories.

As the meetings proceed, all eyes remain on Lascaanood, where decisions made in the coming days could reshape the political landscape of northern Somalia.

Lasaanood (KAAB TV) – In a significant political development, the Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mr. Ali Yusuf Ali (commonly known as Ali Hoosh), arrived this morning in Lasaanood, the administrative capital of SSC-Khatumo.

The minister and his delegation received a warm and ceremonious welcome upon arrival, greeted by senior officials from the SSC-Khatumo administration, high-ranking military officers, traditional elders, and representatives from various sectors of civil society. The visit marks a pivotal moment in the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to support the institutionalization and formal recognition of SSC-Khatumo within Somalia’s federal framework.

Minister Ali Hoosh’s visit is expected to include high-level consultations with local leaders, traditional elders, youth, and women’s groups, as well as civil and military officials. These discussions will focus on finalizing the framework for SSC-Khatumo’s integration into the federal system, strengthening governance structures, and ensuring inclusive representation in national decision-making.

Local authorities have described the visit as “historic,” emphasizing that it reflects a renewed commitment from the Federal Government to listen to and support the aspirations of the SSC-Khatumo people. It also symbolizes an important step toward deepening national unity and reconciliation.

This high-level visit comes at a time when SSC-Khatumo is actively working to rebuild and reinforce its administrative institutions following recent conflicts in the Sool region. The region has seen relative calm and growing momentum toward peace and development, with communities engaging in state-building initiatives aimed at long-term stability.

Analysts view the minister’s presence in Lasaanood as a strong indication of Mogadishu’s intent to prioritize inclusive governance and equitable federalism, particularly in historically marginalized areas like SSC-Khatumo. The visit is likely to accelerate the region’s official recognition and pave the way for stronger ties with the central government.

As the Federal Government continues to work toward a more cohesive and representative federal system, such visits underscore the importance of direct engagement with local populations and the decentralization of governance in Somalia’s evolving political landscape.

LAASCAANOOD (Kaab TV) – The leader of SSC-Khaatumo, Abduqadir Aw-Ali Firdhiye, has announced that his administration has been granted the opportunity to participate in Somalia’s National Consultative Conference for the first time.

The forum, which brings together the Federal Government and Federal Member State leaders, has not convened since last year due to the boycott by Puntland and Jubbaland.

Firdhiye made the announcement during a ceremony held in Lasanod on Sunday night to welcome Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, who concluded a three-day official visit to the region.

“[The Prime Minister] said the SSC people will have a seat at the National Consultative Forum, and that during his term, this state will be officially established,” said Firdhiye.

The SSC-Khaatumo administration, headquartered in Lasanod, was formed in August 2023 following fierce clashes between its forces and Somaliland troops.

While the Federal Ministry of Interior recognized SSC-Khaatumo as a provisional administration, it has not yet met the constitutional criteria required for full Federal Member State status.

Somalia’s Federal Constitution stipulates that a Federal Member State must consist of two or more regions — a condition that some critics say SSC-Khaatumo does not meet.
