Kampala (KAAB TV) – Activists Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo have been released after spending more than 30 days in Ugandan custody.

The two were reportedly abducted in Uganda on October 1 after attending a rally by Uganda’s opposition leader, Bobi Wine.

According to Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’oei, the two were released to Kenya’s High Commissioner to Uganda, Joash Maangi.

They were escorted by the ambassador and officials from the Ugandan government to the Busia border town, where they were received by Busia County Commissioner Chaunga Mwachaunga.

Foreign Affairs PS Sing’oei expressed gratitude for their release and said more details regarding their disappearance will be shared later.

“Deeply grateful for the efforts by different actors who made this outcome possible. We shall be releasing a more detailed account later,” said Korir.

Earlier, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi had written to the government of Uganda, led by President Yoweri Museveni, seeking answers on the whereabouts of Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo, who were abducted in October after attending a campaign rally by Uganda’s opposition leader, Bobi Wine.

In a letter dated October 31, 2025, the Prime Cabinet Secretary followed up on an earlier communication from Kenya’s High Commission in Uganda, which had notified Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs about the abduction. The initial letter was sent to the Ugandan authorities on October 3, 2025.

In his follow-up, Mudavadi informed Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs that Kenya was yet to receive any formal communication regarding the missing citizens. He expressed concern that nearly a month had passed since the initial contact, with no update on their fate.

“It is with profound concern that I note nearly a month has elapsed since our initial communication, and the Government of the Republic of Kenya is yet to receive a formal response from the Government of the Republic of Uganda regarding the whereabouts and well-being of our nationals in question,” the letter reads in part.

Mudavadi further noted that the Government of Kenya was aware of the recent dismissal by the Ugandan High Court of a habeas corpus application due to a lack of sufficient evidence.

He said that the development had raised concerns in Nairobi and highlighted the need for clear and collaborative action.

He reminded Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs that both Kenya and Uganda are duty-bound to protect the safety of their citizens, both at home and abroad.

“We believe that prompt action on this matter is therefore important to upholding our shared values, honouring the Treaty for the Establishment of the East African Community, and preserving the strong, long-standing relations between Kenya and Uganda,” said Mudavadi.

Mudavadi urged the Ugandan government to expedite a thorough and independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of Mr. Njagi and Mr. Oyoo.

He requested that Uganda respond to Kenya’s earlier Note Verbale and share any relevant findings or actions taken so far.

He added that the Government of Kenya stands ready to offer full cooperation through diplomatic channels and joint mechanisms under the East African Community framework to secure the safe return of the missing citizens.

On his part, Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’oei expressed optimism that Kenya and Uganda would resolve the matter soon.

“Grateful that all the diplomatic efforts towards the resolution of this difficult matter will shortly yield a positive outcome,” Korir stated.

Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo had been missing for more than 30 days since their disappearance was reported.

They were reportedly taken by armed men from a petrol station in Kira Municipality, Wakiso District, on October 1, 2025. Their phones were subsequently switched off, and their whereabouts have remained unknown since.

The incident had caused distress to their families, sparked public concern in both countries, and attracted international attention from human rights organizations.

Kampala (KAAB TV) – A group of Somali military officers has graduated from a year-long, high-level training program in Uganda, underscoring the deepening security cooperation between the two East African nations.

The graduation ceremony, held at a Ugandan military academy, was officially presided over by President Yoweri Museveni and attended by senior Somali and Ugandan officials.

The Federal Republic of Somalia was represented by Ambassador Fardowsa Maxamed Qanyare, Somalia’s envoy to Uganda, alongside senior officers from the Somali National Army (SNA), including Senior Colonel Axmed Ise, Commander of Training, and Senior Colonel Cali Aadan Shuriye, Commander of Protocol.

The Somali officers were among 498 graduates from several African countries, including Uganda, Tanzania, Mali, the Central African Republic, and Somalia.

The intensive program focused on leadership, operational command, and modern warfare tactics aimed at improving coordination in counterinsurgency and peacekeeping operations.

Uganda remains one of Somalia’s most steadfast military allies, contributing troops to the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) and providing ongoing support in training and professionalizing the Somali National Army.

Officials said the latest graduation marks another milestone in the broader regional effort to strengthen Somalia’s security institutions as the country works toward assuming full responsibility for its national defense.

Kampala (KAAB TV) – The Government of Uganda has announced the deployment of a new contingent of troops to Somalia in the coming days as part of the African Union Support Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), a peacekeeping initiative aimed at supporting stability and counterterrorism operations in the country.

The announcement was made during a briefing session led by Major General Francis Takirwa, the Deputy Commander of the Ugandan Land Forces, who addressed the new group of soldiers set to join Uganda’s long-standing peacekeeping presence in Somalia.

During the preparatory meeting, Gen. Takirwa urged the troops to uphold discipline, professionalism, and the spirit of African solidarity while carrying out their duties abroad.

“You must always promote the unity and moral values of African communities, focusing on patriotism and the defense of your country’s interests,” he said.

“Your mission is not only to serve Uganda but to contribute to the collective peace and stability of the African continent.”

The Major General emphasized that the deployment is part of Uganda’s ongoing commitment to regional peace and security, particularly in efforts to suppress the activities of the extremist group Al-Shabaab, which continues to launch attacks across Somalia and neighboring countries.

He also highlighted the importance of maintaining close cooperation with Somali security forces and other African Union partners to ensure long-term stability in the region.

Uganda was the first country to deploy troops to Somalia in 2007 under the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), which later transitioned to the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) and, more recently, the African Union Support Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) as part of a revised mandate focused on supporting Somalia’s gradual assumption of full security responsibilities.

To date, Uganda remains the largest troop-contributing country to the AU mission, with its forces primarily stationed in southern Somalia, including key areas such as Mogadishu, Lower Shabelle, and the Bay regions.

The Ugandan People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) have been instrumental in combating insurgents, securing major supply routes, and supporting humanitarian efforts.

The new deployment reflects Uganda’s continued dedication to African-led peacekeeping and regional cooperation in the Horn of Africa.

It also aligns with broader continental goals of fostering unity, peace, and sustainable development across Africa.

KAMPALA (KAAB TV) – Uganda’s First Son and Commander-in-Chief of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has stirred controversy with a bold accusation against the United States, claiming Washington is secretly engaging in negotiations with the Somali militant group Al-Shabaab.

In a statement posted on social media, General Muhoozi questioned the rationale behind Uganda’s continued military involvement in Somalia—now entering its 18th year—if the United States, a key ally in the fight against terrorism, is allegedly in covert discussions with the same extremist group. Al-Shabaab, an al-Qaeda-affiliated organization, has long posed a significant threat to peace and security in the Horn of Africa.

“Why are we still fighting in Somalia if our American friends are having secret talks with Al-Shabaab?” Gen. Muhoozi posted. “Many brave Ugandan soldiers have sacrificed their lives for the stability of Somalia. It would be betrayal if our partners are engaging with the very group we are fighting.”

Notably, the general did not provide any evidence to support his allegations, nor did he clarify the source of his information. His remarks, however, have generated debate within regional and international security circles, given Uganda’s pivotal role in the African Union’s military efforts in Somalia.

Since 2007, Uganda has contributed the largest contingent of troops to what was formerly known as the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), and now operates under the rebranded African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS). Ugandan forces have been instrumental in protecting key Somali government institutions and pushing back against Al-Shabaab insurgents.

The U.S. has also played a prominent role in counterterrorism operations in Somalia, frequently conducting drone strikes targeting senior Al-Shabaab commanders and fighters. In addition, American forces are actively engaged in targeting Islamic State (ISIS) militants entrenched in the rugged terrain of the Bari region, particularly around the Calmikaad mountains.

Despite the ongoing military efforts, the African-led mission in Somalia faces mounting financial challenges. Recent reports indicate that Western backers, including the European Union and the United States, have scaled back funding for ATMIS, raising fears about the sustainability of the mission. A lack of resources could significantly undermine the progress made over the past decade and a half.

As of now, neither the U.S. government nor representatives of Al-Shabaab have issued any official response to General Muhoozi’s claims.

His statement comes at a critical time as regional dynamics shift and questions arise about the long-term strategy for stabilizing Somalia and the Horn of Africa at large.

KAMPALA (KAAB TV) — The African Union (AU) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting peace and stability in Somalia, despite ongoing financial challenges facing its peacekeeping mission in the Horn of Africa.

Speaking at an extraordinary summit in Kampala on Friday, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mohamud Ali Youssouf, emphasized the importance of maintaining the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) and ensuring a smooth transition to the new African Union Support Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).

Youssouf stressed the need for AUSSOM to be fully operational and to consolidate the gains made against the Islamist militant group Al-Shabaab. He highlighted ongoing efforts by the AU Commission to engage with international partners and AU member states to address funding gaps for the mission.

“The Committee is working with all partners, especially member states, to overcome obstacles to peace funding,” said Youssouf. “These funds are crucial to ensuring the effective use of resources and the success of the transition from ATMIS to AUSSOM.”

At the summit, which brought together troop-contributing countries and Somali officials, Youssouf urged member states with forces in Somalia to advocate for greater reliance on domestic resources, given current financial constraints.

According to the African Union, AUSSOM is currently facing a funding shortfall of at least $90 million USD to cover military, police, civilian, and operational costs during the first half of the year.

Youssouf also underscored the importance of non-financial measures to sustain peace in Somalia. He called on the Somali federal government to accelerate the recruitment and integration of national forces to ensure a self-reliant and stable security framework.

In addition, he encouraged the Somali government to continue its political efforts toward strengthening state institutions. “This will be a key part of a broader engagement within the National Consultative Council, involving all federal member states,” he said.

Kampala (KAAB TV) – The Minister of Agriculture and Land Restoration in Egypt, Alaa Farooq, met with his counterpart in Senegal and Somalia, discussing the strengthening of cooperation in the field of agriculture. These meetings were held alongside the extraordinary summit of the African Union on agricultural development, which is currently underway in Kampala, Uganda.

Farooq met with Senegal’s Minister of Agriculture, Food Independence, and Livestock Resources, Mabouba Diagne, and both ministers confirmed the strong historical ties between their countries, and expressed their desire to strengthen cooperation, especially in the agricultural sector. They agreed that this cooperation includes the sharing of experience in sustainable agriculture, training opportunities, development of modern agricultural technology, promotion of agricultural research and digital transformation. They also discussed increasing trade in agricultural products and how to remove existing barriers.

The Senegalese delegation requested Egypt’s support for the development of new types of strategic crops such as wheat, maize, and rice. They also suggested that Egypt help establish a center of excellence for seed production in Senegal. In addition, Senegal is looking for Egypt’s expertise in the construction of grain storage facilities, with the possibility of a tripartite partnership involving Egypt, Senegal, and the African Development Bank.Senegal has also expressed its interest in nitrogenous fertilizers imported from Egypt. It was agreed to organize a technical meeting to develop specific areas of cooperation, along with communication with the Egyptian authorities to ensure that Senegal’s fertilizer needs are met. In addition, the Senegalese side will send a technical delegation to Egypt to study modern technology and laboratory equipment and to see the production of strategic crops.

Farooq also met with Mohamed Abdi Khair Maareye, the Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation of the Federal Republic of Somalia, where they discussed how to cooperate on agricultural issues.

The ministers discussed joint research projects focused on climate change and its impact on agriculture, as well as digital transformation, animal production, and animal species development. They also considered the development of agricultural extension services.

Both ministers emphasized the importance of sharing experience. Somalia seeks to benefit from Egypt’s experience in managing water resources, improving crop production, and controlling pests and diseases. The possibility of sending agricultural experts from Egypt to Somalia to provide technical support to farmers was discussed, along with training programs for Somali farmers and experts at the Egyptian International Agricultural Center in Cairo.

The ministers also discussed how to increase the flow of agricultural products between the two countries and how to increase business opportunities. They agreed to hold a joint technical meeting to discuss these issues and to update existing memorandums of understanding to accelerate this cooperation in the near future. Those meetings were attended by the Egyptian ambassador to Uganda, Monzer Selim; Head of the Agricultural Research Center, Adel Abdelazim; and Head of Foreign Agricultural Relations, Saad Musa.

Kampala (KAAB TV) – Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the son of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, has announced his resignation from his post X, while posting controversial messages.

Also, the 50-year-old Ugandan army general has become heavily involved in the political arena, breaking military rule and rekindling discussions about his desire to succeed his father, who has been in power since 1986.

It was recently when there was outrage over a tweet he posted on his Twitter account in which he threatened to cut the neck of the opposition leader in the country, Bobi Wine.

In his latest tweet on Friday, General Kainerugaba said it was “time to step down and concentrate” on his military duties but promised to “come back” to his one million supporters in the future.

It is not the first time that General Kaineruga has suspended his X account, he has suspended the publication of his posts on his X site several times in the past.

In 2022, he left the platform where only articles were published but returned a few days later.

However, critics blamed the general for his comments on social media, which touched on sensitive topics that should not be discussed by an army officer.
