Iran launched retaliatory strikes targeting U.S. military facilities in the Gulf early Wednesday after the United States carried out what it described as “major strikes” against several sites inside Iran and reinstated sanctions on the country’s oil exports, sharply escalating tensions between the two longtime rivals.

According to Iranian state media, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targeted American military installations in Bahrain and Kuwait in response to the U.S. attacks, which Washington said were launched after Iran allegedly attacked three commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, including oil tankers linked to Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

The IRGC also claimed it had shot down a U.S. military drone during the exchange of hostilities. U.S. officials had not immediately confirmed the claim, and the full extent of the damage from either side’s attacks remained unclear.

The latest military exchange has raised fears that the conflict could spiral into a broader regional war, threatening stability across the Middle East.

The Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime corridor through which roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil supply passes, has once again become the center of international concern, with renewed violence posing risks to global energy markets and commercial shipping.

The escalation also cast fresh doubt on a fragile ceasefire that had been intended to halt the fighting. U.S. President Donald Trump suggested the truce had effectively collapsed, telling reporters, “For me, I think it’s over,” while adding that American officials would still be allowed to continue negotiations with Tehran. “They can talk, but I think they’re wasting their time,” he said.

Trump’s remarks fueled uncertainty over diplomatic efforts that had been expected to resume following the conclusion of the days-long funeral ceremonies for Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed during the opening phase of the conflict on February 28. The mourning period had been viewed as an opportunity to lower tensions before formal negotiations began.

Although attacks had periodically threatened the already fragile ceasefire, Trump’s comments and the latest exchange of strikes have heightened concerns that hostilities could fully resume.

Analysts warn that a renewed conflict could draw additional regional powers into the crisis and once again disrupt energy shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, with significant consequences for the global economy.

Despite the deteriorating security situation, diplomatic channels remain open, though officials on both sides have given little indication that a lasting agreement is within immediate reach. International leaders continue to urge restraint and renewed dialogue to prevent a wider regional conflict.

MOGADISHU (Kaab TV) – The Somali government has welcomed a memorandum of understanding reached between the United States and Iran, describing the agreement as an important diplomatic breakthrough that could help reduce tensions, encourage dialogue, and contribute to peace and stability across the wider region.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Somalia praised both Washington and Tehran for choosing diplomacy and constructive engagement over confrontation. The government said the agreement demonstrates the value of negotiations in resolving disputes and preventing further escalation in areas already affected by geopolitical tensions.

Mogadishu also commended the efforts of several countries that supported the diplomatic process, including Pakistan, Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey. Somali officials said the involvement of these regional partners helped create conditions that facilitated dialogue and contributed to the understanding reached between the two sides.

The government further acknowledged the role of Donald Trump in supporting efforts aimed at easing tensions and promoting diplomatic engagement. Somalia said international cooperation and sustained dialogue remain essential tools for addressing complex regional and global challenges.

In its statement, Somalia expressed hope that both parties would implement the agreement in good faith and use it as a foundation for broader efforts to preserve peace and security.

Officials noted that reducing tensions could help protect civilian lives, safeguard freedom of navigation, ensure the uninterrupted flow of maritime trade, and prevent further instability in strategically important waterways.

The Somali government reaffirmed its commitment to diplomacy, respect for international law, and the peaceful resolution of disputes.

It also welcomed all initiatives designed to strengthen peace, security, and cooperation across the Middle East, the Horn of Africa, and the Red Sea region, emphasizing that stability in these interconnected areas remains vital for regional development and global commerce.

TEHRAN (Kaab TV) – Multiple explosions were reported early Wednesday across southern Iran as air defense systems were activated in several areas, including the port city of Bandar Abbas, Qeshm Island, Sirik County, and Jask County, according to Iran’s state-run IRIB television.

The semi-official Tasnim News Agency reported that at least six explosions were heard in Sirik, Qeshm Island, and the southern city of Minab. The agency claimed that several locations in those regions were targeted by U.S. fighter jets.

The reported strikes came shortly after U.S. Central Command announced on social media platform X that American forces had launched what it described as “self-defense strikes” against Iran.

According to the statement, the operation began at 5 p.m. Eastern Time under the direction of U.S. President Donald Trump and was carried out in response to the reported downing of a U.S. Army Apache helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz.

“The mission is a proportional response to unjustified Iranian aggression,” U.S. Central Command stated.

President Donald Trump on Tuesday accused Iran of shooting down the U.S. military helicopter and vowed that Washington would respond to the incident.

Trump said the two pilots aboard the helicopter were rescued safely and did not suffer injuries.

“Nevertheless, the United States must, of necessity, respond to this attack,” Trump said.

The latest escalation has intensified fears of a broader military confrontation in the Middle East, particularly around the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global oil shipments.

Regional and international observers have warned that continued clashes between the United States and Iran could further destabilize the region, disrupt global energy markets, and undermine ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions.

TEHRAN (Kaab TV) – The Iranian government has stated that its negotiations with the United States were conducted from a position of strength and were not the result of fear, pressure, or intimidation over American military power, according to remarks made by the speaker of Iran’s parliament.

In a statement posted on his X account, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said the talks were part of Iran’s strategy to confront its adversaries directly and demonstrate the country’s political and military capabilities.

Ghalibaf stated that whenever Iran’s opponents impose conditions or demands, Tehran responds with equivalent conditions of its own in order to show that it negotiates as an equal power rather than from weakness.

“The negotiations were not born out of fear or submission,” he said, adding that Iran seeks to prove its strength and independence in the face of foreign pressure.

The Iranian parliament speaker also claimed that the Iranian people had achieved what he described as important and tangible victories by resisting hostile forces and inflicting significant losses on their enemies.

He further stated that Iranians would continue to speak about those achievements for years to come, praising what he described as the resilience and determination of the country in confronting external threats.

The comments come amid continuing tensions between Iran and the United States over regional security, sanctions, nuclear activities, and military influence across the Middle East.

Relations between Tehran and Washington have remained strained for years, particularly after the U.S. withdrew from the 2015 nuclear agreement during the administration of Donald Trump and reimposed sweeping sanctions on Iran.

Iranian officials have repeatedly insisted that negotiations with Western countries must take place on the basis of mutual respect and without threats or coercion, while U.S. officials have continued to accuse Tehran of destabilizing activities across the region.

The latest remarks also come at a time of heightened regional tensions involving conflicts in the Red Sea, the Gulf region, and ongoing confrontations involving Iran-backed groups across the Middle East.
