Fresh tensions have emerged in the Wardheer area of Hiran Region after a dispute over access to water reportedly triggered military mobilization and fears of renewed inter-clan violence along the border between Hiran and Galgaduud regions.

According to local sources, the latest standoff began after armed men reportedly from the Galgaduud side allegedly damaged water-carrying containers and equipment used to transport water to communities near Wardheer.

The incident sparked anger among residents and quickly led to reports of armed mobilization by groups from both sides of the regional boundary.

Wardheer lies in a sensitive area between Hirshabelle and Galmudug, a region that has witnessed recurring clashes in recent years.

The area has frequently experienced disputes linked to access to grazing land, water resources, territorial boundaries, and clan rivalries, issues that have occasionally escalated into armed confrontations.

The incident comes amid a history of recurring local conflicts in central Somalia, where competition over scarce resources—especially during periods of drought and water shortages—has frequently fueled clashes between neighboring communities.

Community leaders, elders, and local officials are now under growing pressure to intervene and facilitate dialogue between the opposing sides. Observers say swift mediation will be essential to preventing the situation from deteriorating further.

Buuloburte (Kaab TV) – The Buuloburte district has experienced political tension related to elections and misunderstandings between the local administration, the electoral commission, and the district security forces. This situation, which resembles a “political drama,” has affected the communities living in Buuloburte, Hiiraan region.

On February 23, 2026, the Federal Government of Somalia sent the national electoral commission to Buuloburte to begin preparations for upcoming elections. Upon arrival, the district mayor, Cabdisalaam Hagar, initially detained the commission members. Reports later indicated that he ordered them to leave the town, causing confusion and raising many questions.

Subsequently, Buuloburte district commissioner Hassan M. Cabdi posed for a photo with the commission members, signaling that the electoral process was proceeding normally. However, late last night, it was reported that forces from Macawisley removed the electoral commission members from the mayor’s residence, escalating speculation about an ongoing internal conflict.

Meanwhile, the chair of the electoral operations subcommittee, Maxamed Amiin Xasan Cabdalla, appointed three members, two of whom belong to the Baadacade clan (specifically Maamiye) and one from the Raxanweyn clan (specifically Hadamo). This appointment sparked complaints, particularly from groups that felt underrepresented.

Reports also indicate that the district mayor was displeased that the commission did not include members from his own Illaabe Baadacadde clan. This led him to openly oppose the commission, coordinating his actions with the mayor and the Macawisley forces.

These events have been blamed on the Hirshabeelle administration, led by Cali Guudlaawe, which is accused of orchestrating the situation to undermine certain political figures contesting the Hirshabeelle administration and the Macawisley forces, as well as to provoke inter-clan tensions among the communities living in Buuloburte.
