Member of Parliament Abdirahman Warsame, one of the politicians leading the anti-government demonstrations, stated that the protest would be peaceful and aimed at defending displaced residents.

“This protest is a peaceful demonstration. It is a protest against the displacement of people and the illegal seizure of land belonging to Somali citizens,” said MP Abdirahman Abdishakur.

He claimed that hundreds of thousands of people had been forced from their homes and business premises.

He also called on the public, especially those who had been displaced from their neighbourhoods, to participate in the demonstrations, saying that “everyone should return to the place they were displaced from in order to assert their rights.”

Former Somali Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire stated that the protests would continue until the affected people receive their rights.

“This is not just a one-day protest. It will continue until the victims obtain their rights,” Khaire said.

Khaire accused the government of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of suppressing and arresting young people and individuals who hold views different from those of the government. He also urged the security forces not to be used against peaceful protesters.

Former Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble likewise said that the people of Mogadishu must “stand up in defense of those who have been displaced.”

“Tomorrow is a day for every compassionate citizen to come out and protest,” Roble said, describing Mogadishu as “a city known for peace and hospitality,” but adding that there are now “a small number of people attempting to seize public property unlawfully.”

Meanwhile, former Somali President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, who also chairs the Somali Future Opposition Council, stated that this year had become “a year marked by land grabbing and forced displacement.”

Sharif Sheikh Ahmed accused the government of failing to stop the demolition of homes and the forced relocation of poor residents, saying that the issue could not remain ignored.

“We oppose the injustice being inflicted on people who have been displaced from their homes,” he said, while urging the public to participate in the planned demonstrations.

Opposition leaders stated that the protests would take place in several districts across the Banadir region, emphasizing that they would be “peaceful demonstrations” intended to express public grievances.

The organization was established in 2019 by Somali community members and graduates who wanted to help poor families, displaced people, and marginalized groups.

The organization has become active in several Somali communities and among Somali diaspora groups abroad. Its activities mainly focus on humanitarian support, social awareness, education assistance, health campaigns, and community development.

Recent reports show that the organization launched a digital registration and complaints platform to help residents report issues affecting their lives

The organization encourages citizens to register complaints related to: Land grabbing, Forced displacement, Social injustice, Unfair clan discrimination, Violations of citizens’ rights and Community security concerns.

The organization stated that the purpose of the registration process was to collect information about the challenges facing the public and strengthen the “voice of oppressed communities.”

As of now there is 28,301 Somali citizens registered via the digital platform and may continue to rise over time.
