The displaced civilians have fled to villages located to the north, outside Xawaadley District. Some of the people we contacted said they are experiencing a severe health crisis, especially among children who are suffering from illnesses including acute watery diarrhea and malnutrition.

The displaced families are also facing urgent needs for shelter, clean drinking water, food, and medical services, while no sufficient humanitarian assistance has yet reached them. Local residents have called on humanitarian organizations and the government to urgently deliver humanitarian aid to save the lives of the affected people.

So far, the Somali federal government has not taken any action to assist the people living in areas under Xawaadley District in the Middle Shabelle region.

Officials from the National Army stated that the operation has advanced into several areas previously held by the militants, following heavy pressure and targeted airstrikes.

A small number of local troops is accompanying the National Army in its operations against Al-Shabaab in the region.
