Somalia’s Federal Government has strongly reacted to a widely discussed incident at Hargeisa General Hospital, where a mother, identified as Nimco Jama Yusuf, died by suicide at the facility.

The Federal Ministry of Women and Human Rights Development called on the relevant authorities to conduct a full and immediate investigation into the incident, stressing that the case should be handled fairly and transparently.

Minister of Family and Human Rights Development Ambassador Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi said she was deeply concerned by the incident, emphasizing that Somali mothers deserve adequate care, protection and access to essential healthcare services.

The ministry described the incident in Hargeisa as deeply distressing and heartbreaking, and offered prayers for the deceased, asking Allah to grant her mercy and a place in Paradise.
