The return of the Palestinian remains, via the International Committee of the Red Cross, came as Israeli forces continued air strikes across the Strip despite a shaky ceasefire, killing at least three people on Friday.

One Palestinian was killed and his brother wounded by Israeli gunfire in the Shujayea neighbourhood of eastern Gaza City, while another was killed by Israeli shelling in the Jabalia refugee camp, Wafa news agency reported.

A third Palestinian died of wounds sustained from previous Israeli shelling, it added.

Civil defence workers in central Gaza said they had recovered the body of a Palestinian from the rubble of the Abu Medein family home in the az-Zahra neighbourhood.

Israeli warplanes also struck buildings in Khan Younis in southern Gaza on Friday.

The return of slain Palestinian detainees comes as part of the prisoner-captive exchange deal agreed in early October. The latest handover brings the total number of bodies received to 225, the Palestinian Health Ministry said in a statement.

It said medical teams are identifying the bodies under standard protocols before documenting them and notifying families.

In the previous handovers, bodies of prisoners had exhibited signs of torture, including being blindfolded and handcuffed, medical sources said.

Many had appeared decomposed or burned, while others were missing limbs or teeth.

Israel holds thousands of Palestinians in prison, many in administrative detention without filing official charges against them.

Reports that Israel tortures Palestinian detainees in its jails have been common for years, and have increased since the start of its war on Gaza.

Under the United States-brokered accord to halt Israel’s two-year war on Gaza, Hamas released 20 living captives in exchange for Israel releasing nearly 2,000 Palestinian political prisoners.

Israeli forces have also completed a partial withdrawal from urban centres in Gaza.

But since the ceasefire took effect on October 10, Israeli attacks have killed dozens of Palestinians across the enclave. From Tuesday into Wednesday, the Health Ministry in Gaza said Israeli attacks killed 104 people, including 46 children and 20 women.

The Red Cross said it transferred the unidentified remains of three people to Israel late on Friday, but it was unclear if they were deceased captives.

An Israeli military source told news agency AFP the bodies had been transferred to a “forensic research laboratory” to confirm their identities.

The previous day, Hamas handed over two bodies of dead Israeli captives. So far, the group has returned the remains of 17 captives, not including Friday’s three bodies.

As part of the deal, the Palestinian group committed to returning the remains of all 28 captives in exchange for the bodies of Palestinians killed in the war.

The group is continuing to press for proper equipment and support to comb through vast mounds of rubble and debris – where thousands of Palestinians killed in Israeli bombardments are still buried.

The Red Cross and members of Hamas’s military wing, the Qassam Brigades, travelled to east Khan Younis on Friday to search for the remains of Israeli captives, sources in the armed group told Al Jazeera.

As Hamas appears to be committed to the ceasefire agreement, Israel has still refused to open vital border crossings and allow much-needed humanitarian aid trucks into the enclave, where famine in the north was declared earlier this year.

Al Jazeera’s Tareq Abu Azzoum, reporting from az-Zawayda in central Gaza, said that, while Israel has allowed a new wave of aid trucks to access Gaza on Friday, “humanitarian aid trucks remain partially restricted”.

Palestinians are “really struggling to get aid from the UN warehouses”, he said.

“The situation is still very [difficult] and for many Palestinians, the ceasefire is not only about bringing food in but also about ensuring that shelter materials can [reach] people in need.”

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced that various foreign ministers will meet and discuss the Gaza ceasefire and its next steps on Monday.

During a news conference in Ankara, Fidan said the meeting would include officials who had met US President Donald Trump in New York in September, and added that the discussions were continuing on forming a Gaza task force and a stabilisation force.

He added that Turkiye was concerned about whether the ceasefire would continue.

Yossi Beilin, Israel’s former justice and foreign minister, said he “would be surprised” if Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reversed course on the ceasefire, despite signs that it has come under increasing strain.

“This is something that he committed himself to, mainly to President Trump, and I would be very surprised if he doesn’t go on with the agreement,” Beilin told Al Jazeera.

Meanwhile, the Israeli army’s top lawyer, Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi, has been dismissed over a video which was leaked last year showing a Palestinian detainee at Sde Teiman detention facility allegedly being sexually assaulted by Israeli troops.

The facility has been widely criticised for rights abuses. Rights groups say Palestinians have faced severe mistreatment in Israeli detention during the war.

The Israeli military says it is investigating dozens of cases but denies systematic abuse, though such probes have often ended without accountability.

‘A MOCKERY’

The United Nations said on Friday the situation in Gaza is the worst since the start of the war 19 months ago, with the entire population facing the risk of famine despite a resumption of limited aid deliveries earlier this month.

“The aid that’s being sent now makes a mockery of the mass tragedy unfolding under our watch,” Philippe Lazzarini, head of the main U.N. relief organization for Palestinians, said in a message on X.

Israel has been allowing a limited number of trucks from the World Food Programme and other international groups to bring flour to bakeries in Gaza but deliveries have been hampered by repeated incidents of looting.

A separate system, run by a U.S.-backed group called the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, has been delivering meals and food packages at three designated distribution sites.

However, aid groups have refused to cooperate with the GHF, which they say is not neutral, and say the amount of aid allowed in falls far short of the needs of a population at risk of famine.

Israel denies operating a policy of starvation and says it is facilitating aid deliveries, pointing to its endorsement of the new GHF distribution centres and its consent for other aid trucks to enter Gaza.

Instead it accuses Hamas of stealing supplies intended for civilians and using them to entrench its hold on Gaza, which it had been running since 2007.

Hamas denies looting supplies and has executed a number of suspected looters.

Israel began its offensive in Gaza in response to the Hamas-led attack on communities in southern Israel on October 7, 2023, which killed 1,200 people, according to Israeli tallies, and saw 251 taken as hostages into Gaza.

The campaign has laid waste large areas of the Gaza Strip, killing more than 54,000 Palestinians and destroying or damaging most of its buildings, leaving most of the population in makeshift shelters.

A directive released by the Minister of Interior, Abdalle Mohamed Arab, has given all undocumented foreigners a deadline of three days to leave the region.

“The Minister of Interior and Security, Abdalle Mohamed Arab, has issued an order regarding foreign nationals who do not possess legal documentation for the Republic of Somaliland,” the decree stated, which was released today, Tuesday.

The three-day period begins on Wednesday, April 30, and ends on May 2, 2025.

The directive did not clarify who exactly is considered a foreigner under this order.

Somaliland, known for being relatively stable compared to other parts of Somalia, hosts a diverse population, including Ethiopian migrants, people displaced from southern Somalia, and some from countries such as Yemen, Syria, and others.

In 2022, Somaliland deported thousands of people from the city of Las Anod, many of whom were from the southern Somalia.

Authorities claimed they were undocumented foreigners causing insecurity in the area.

Recently, international media reported that U.S. President Donald Trump was considering relocating Palestinians from Gaza to Somaliland and Puntland, regions perceived to be safer than the rest of Somalia.

Interior Minister Mazen al-Faraya announced Wednesday the closure of all Brotherhood offices and the confiscation of its assets.

“All activities by the group will now be considered illegal,” he said.

The Muslim Brotherhood has not yet responded to the government’s accusations.

This move comes as part of a broader national security response after Jordan’s intelligence services arrested 16 individuals suspected of plotting attacks against key infrastructure and national institutions.

Authorities say the group possessed explosives, homemade rockets, drones, and automatic weapons, and had conducted training both inside Jordan and abroad—including in Lebanon.

A Jordanian court last week charged 12 of the suspects, believed to be linked to the Brotherhood, with terrorism-related crimes.

It is the first time in decades that a domestic group has faced accusations of plotting an attack of this magnitude.

Although the Muslim Brotherhood has for years been legally dissolved in Jordan—following a 2020 court ruling that found the group failed to correct its legal registration—the organization has continued to operate politically and socially, primarily through its political arm, the Islamic Action Front (IAF).

In last year’s elections, the IAF secured 31 of the 138 seats in parliament.

The latest measures significantly limit the group’s remaining influence in Jordan, as political tensions intensify in the region due to the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.

Analysts say the government is increasingly wary of internal dissent or mobilization that could be fueled by the conflict.

IAF Secretary-General Wael Saqqa has denied any organizational ties between the party and the banned Brotherhood network, stating that the IAF is “independent and operates lawfully.”

Still, Minister Faraya maintains that elements within the Brotherhood have been working covertly to undermine national stability.

“Their activities pose a serious threat to the country’s peace and security,” he said.

Founded in Egypt nearly a century ago, the Muslim Brotherhood has long promoted the establishment of Islamic rule based on Sharia law and has branches or affiliated movements across the Middle East.
