Ethiopia (Kaab TV) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has stated that his government has entered a phase of military preparedness aimed at combating piracy and terrorism, spanning from the Somali coast to the port of Massawa in Eritrea.

Prime Minister Abiy explained that military training operations, which were previously conducted on land, in mountainous areas, and along rivers, have now been expanded to include naval operations.

He added that Ethiopia will work with “brotherly nations” to eliminate maritime terrorism along the Red Sea shipping routes and to ensure regional development and prosperity.

Abiy further stated that Ethiopia has established a specialized, highly trained force equipped with modern technology. This force is capable of conducting surveillance using unmanned aerial vehicles (drones), carrying out strikes on fortified positions with so-called kamikaze drones, and executing rapid-response operations in strategic locations.

He described the force as one designed not only to reinforce or shorten military engagements when necessary, but primarily to prevent war and terrorism within Ethiopia and across the wider region.

According to the Prime Minister, the country has built a strong and reliable military capable of swiftly neutralizing threats should conflicts arise. He emphasized that strengthening military capacity is intended as a deterrent against instability, not as a means of provoking conflict.

Abiy Ahmed’s remarks come at a time of heightened tensions between Ethiopia and Eritrea, driven by Addis Ababa’s pursuit of access to the Red Sea.

Recently, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed stated that his country, with a population of 130 million people, cannot remain landlocked and without access to a port indefinitely.
