Kaab TV visited one of the city’s popular coffee spots and spoke with Hani Ahmed Haji, a young woman originally from Doolow, who now runs a small but thriving coffee business in Mogadishu.

Hani explained that her business began modestly, but interest quickly grew as locals developed a taste for the authentic Ethiopian brew.

“This is original Ethiopian coffee,” she told Kaab TV, noting the difference between the traditional method of preparation and the instant or machine-made coffee served in large cafés and hotels.

Initially, Hani said she was hesitant to move to Somalia, citing security concerns and reports of violence.

“My hometown is Dire Dawa. I used to hear about killings on the streets in Somalia. But since arriving, I haven’t seen any conflict,” she said.

Hani expressed appreciation for the warm reception from the Somali community, saying her customers have been supportive and respectful.

“I want to stay here. I’m even thinking of getting married here,” she added with a laugh.

Mogadishu and other Somali cities have recently seen an increase in small businesses run by refugees, particularly members of Ethiopia’s Oromo community.

Despite this entrepreneurial growth, many migrants still view Somalia as a transit point and continue their journeys toward other destinations.
