Dolow, Gedo Region (KAAB TV) – The Federal Government of Somalia is intensifying efforts to deploy additional military forces to the border town of Dolow, located in the Gedo region of southern Somalia.

This strategic location, which borders Ethiopia, is currently hosting troops from both the Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF) and soldiers affiliated with the Jubbaland regional administration—a move that underscores the growing competition for influence in the region.

According to reliable sources, a high-level delegation of Somali government officials attempted to land at Dolow airport within the past 24 hours. The delegation reportedly included senior military officers, among them the Commander of the Somali National Army’s Land Forces, as well as top officials from the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA).

However, their aircraft was denied landing clearance and forced to abort its mission, indicating heightened tensions and possible political obstruction on the ground.

In response to the aborted landing, the delegation rerouted to the Ethiopian side of Dolow, where they held a closed-door meeting with senior commanders of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), specifically the Ethiopian contingent stationed in the area.

Among the key topics discussed were the current security dynamics in the Gedo region, regional stability, and the need for enhanced coordination between Somali federal forces and Ethiopian troops operating under the ATMIS mandate.

The meeting is seen as part of the Somali Federal Government’s broader strategy to reassert its authority in Gedo, a region that has long been a flashpoint for power struggles between the central government in Mogadishu and the semi-autonomous Jubbaland administration, led by President Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Madobe).

Tensions have been particularly high in recent weeks amid growing speculation that a new regional administration may be announced for parts of the Jubbaland state, with Gedo poised to serve as its political and logistical launching point.

These developments have raised alarms in Kismayo, Jubbaland’s administrative capital, where leaders view the Federal Government’s actions as attempts to undermine their autonomy.

Political analysts note that Gedo has historically been contested territory due to its strategic location, local clan dynamics, and proximity to the Ethiopian border.

The region has frequently found itself at the center of federal-regional disputes, with control of the area symbolizing wider political influence in the country’s fragile federal system.

As the Federal Government continues to maneuver diplomatically and militarily, it remains unclear how these efforts will affect the already delicate balance of power in southern Somalia.

Observers warn that without a comprehensive and inclusive approach to local governance, security interventions may only further complicate the region’s volatile political landscape.

Dolow (KAAB TV) – Developments from the Beledhawo district in Somalia’s Gedo region reveal increasing tension between Somali federal forces and Ethiopian officials operating in the area. Reports confirm that Ethiopian authorities based in the Dolow district have detained Abdirashid Janan—a senior Somali government security official—and the federal forces under his command, following their recent deployment to Beledhawo.

According to sources within the regional administration, Janan and his troops, who were deployed by the Somali Federal Government just days earlier, have been ordered to leave Beledhawo. The Ethiopian officials reportedly issued this directive after meeting with local traditional elders in an effort to de-escalate growing political and military friction in the area.

Speaking to KAAB TV, the governor of Gedo region—appointed by the Somali federal authorities—confirmed the sequence of events. “Ethiopian military officers arrived in Dolow and held discussions with local elders. Following that, they communicated a clear order to the UK camp in Beledhawo and to federal officials stationed there, particularly Minister Abdirashid Janan. He was given a three-day deadline to vacate Beledhawo due to concerns that his presence was destabilizing the local security situation,” the governor stated.

This development comes shortly after Beledhawo was taken over by Somali Federal Government forces led by Abdirashid Janan, who was recently reappointed as the head of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) and regional security chief for Gedo. His arrival in the district was seen by some as a federal assertion of authority in an area historically contested between the central government in Mogadishu and the semi-autonomous Jubbaland administration.

Ethiopia’s role in the region has drawn increasing scrutiny. Although operating under the auspices of international peacekeeping and security cooperation, Ethiopian forces in Dolow have often been viewed as favoring the Jubbaland regional administration—an entity with a complex and frequently adversarial relationship with the Somali federal government.

Just days prior to this standoff, Ethiopian troops stationed in Dolow, reportedly supporting Jubbaland-aligned forces, launched an attack on a Somali federal security camp within the same district—further inflaming the volatile political environment in Gedo.

Analysts suggest that Ethiopia’s growing influence in Somali internal affairs, particularly in sensitive border regions like Gedo, is contributing to an already fragile security landscape and exacerbating divisions between Somalia’s federal and regional authorities.

As the deadline approaches for Janan and his forces to withdraw from Beledhawo, it remains to be seen how the Somali federal government will respond to what appears to be external pressure from a foreign power acting within its sovereign territory.

DOLOW, Gedo (Kaab TV) – At least four people were killed and several others injured on Monday after Jubbaland forces clashed with recently deployed Somali federal government forces in Dolow town, Gedo region.

Jubbaland’s Security Minister, General Yusuf Hussein Dhumal, blamed the federal government forces for initiating the fighting.

In a press conference held in Dolow, General Dhumal stated that federal forces from Beledhawo town attacked Dolow early Monday in an attempt to arrest Jubbaland officials who had arrived from Kismayo by air.

“They began shooting in the city center. Several people were injured, businesses were closed, and residents started fleeing,” General Dhumal said.

According to Kaab TV’s local reporter, several hours of skirmishes led to Jubbaland forces regaining control of Dolow, a strategic border town with Ethiopia.

Several Somali federal forces were reportedly arrested, while the injured were taken to the hospital.

Meanwhile, a local NGO worker was reportedly kidnapped on Monday in Dolow. General Dhumal accused Somali federal forces of being behind the abduction.

Local residents told Kaab TV that Ethiopian troops stationed in Dolow as part of the African Union mission intervened to de-escalate the situation and helped end the fighting.

However, Jubbaland forces maintained control of the town.

Dolow is home to thousands of internally displaced people and has been a relatively peaceful base for several local and international humanitarian organizations.

The Gedo region remains in crisis as tensions between Jubbaland and the Somali federal government escalate into violent conflict.

Separately, a Jubbaland official in Baardheere town, Gedo region, accused the federal government of attempting to destabilize the area by arming local militias against Jubbaland state.

In a statement, however, the Somali federal government accused Ethiopian forces of supporting Jubbaland forces during the Dolow clashes. The Mogadishu administration reported that several Somali federal forces were killed and injured as a result of the fighting.
