Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni arrived in Galkayo early Saturday as military tensions continue to simmer across parts of Mudug.

His visit is expected to focus on assessing the security situation, launching development projects, laying foundations for new projects and overseeing plans to integrate federal-aligned forces into Puntland’s security structure.

During his stay, Deni is expected to meet traditional elders, security officials, Mudug regional authorities and representatives of the local community.

His visit comes after Puntland recently took control of former PSF bases in Galkayo and Bosaso, amid an escalating dispute with federal-aligned forces operating in the region.

Meanwhile, some federal forces that had been stationed in Mudug have reportedly moved toward Galmudug-controlled areas following the Puntland takeover of the PSF facilities.

Puntland’s two-day deadline for federal-aligned forces in its territory to surrender has also expired, while government officials and community leaders in Nugaal, Mudug and Bari are reportedly continuing efforts to prevent further escalation.
