Eerigabo (Kaab TV) — At least 20 people have been killed in clashes between two closely related clans in the Laashimo Valley area, under the district of Eerigaabo in Sanaag region.

The fighting, which began yesterday, was triggered by a dispute over grazing land.

The conflict caused significant casualties and property damage, with the clashes continuing for more than 24 hours.

No official mediation efforts have been undertaken between the two clan militias so far.

The two groups have previously engaged in several conflicts in the Sanaag region.

Local sources said the fighting came to a halt on its own early this morning. Peace efforts are now underway, led by traditional elders from Puntland. Some of the elders are reportedly traveling to the conflict areas to strengthen reconciliation efforts.

Those killed in the clashes, most of whom were fighters from the opposing sides, were buried today in mass graves in the area where the violence occurred.

More than 30 people injured in the fighting were transported to Eerigaabo for treatment at local medical facilities.

Puntland and Somaliland, both of which claim authority over the disputed area, have so far failed to directly intervene and mediate between the two clan militias involved in the conflict.

MOGADISHU (KAAB TV) – The Middle Shabelle region of Somalia witnessed a tragic resurgence of interclan violence on Tuesday and Wednesday, resulting in the deaths of more than 10 people and leaving dozens injured as community members expressed their concern.

The relentless conflict has forced local residents to flee their rural villages between Adale and Raage Ceelle, seeking safety from the escalating hostilities.

As the clashes intensified, the situation took a horrifying turn when heavily armed militia torched houses in Geyfo village on Wednesday.

On Thursday, the fighting resumed with the two rival militia groups receiving reinforcements.

The conflict has been rooted in a long-standing tribal dispute over land ownership and water wells, and it involves militants from two rival clans who have been clashing in the area.

In the wake of the violence, some of the wounded were transported to Balcad and Mogadishu on both Tuesday and Wednesday for urgent medical attention.

Omar Ali Bashkah, the chairman of the Adale youth group condemned the violence as he came forward to accuse politicians of fueling the war and expressed dismay over the lack of a comprehensive solution.

He remarked, “It is saddening and very unfortunate” that the conflict has become repetitive without any clear resolution in sight.

In response to the escalating bloodshed, elders in Mogadishu issued an urgent call for their participation in halting the violence.

They expressed surprise and disappointment that their previous appeals for peace had gone unanswered.

Clan elder Ali Mohamud urged an immediate end to the hostility and demanded that officials who are using government military and weapons to support the warring clans put an end to their involvement.

During the Wednesday fighting, which primarily took place in rural villages outside Adale town, the conflict escalated further when government military forces, along with their battlewagons, joined the fray.

Sources from the region reported that heavily armed military personnel and weapons from Mogadishu were siding with their respective clan militias, exacerbating the conflict’s intensity.

Local media also reported that officials from the Adale district administration and Raage Ceelle were allegedly contributing to the violence by providing weapons and ammunition to their respective clan militias.

The violence has prompted rural communities in the affected areas to flee in search of safety, while the warring militias continue to receive support from different sources, raising fears that the conflict could persist and escalate further.

However, despite the ongoing bloodshed and calls from various groups for an end to the hostility, Hirshabelle State authorities, particularly the region’s leader Ali Abdullahi Gudlawe, whose own militia was reportedly partaking in the fight, have remained silent on the matter.

The federal government has not publicly addressed the escalating violence, leading to growing frustrations among concerned citizens who are calling for an end to the conflict.

MOGADISHU (KAAB TV) – The announcement by the European Union on Tuesday, July 12, regarding the funding of a new military base in Dhusamareb has raised serious concerns among the Somali population.

While the EU claims that its support for the construction of the military base showcases its commitment to supporting Somalia’s security infrastructure, there are pressing issues unfolding in the same region of Galgaduud that cannot be ignored.

In recent times, various clan militia groups in Galgaduud have been arming themselves to counter the threats posed by rival clans. The renewed clan conflict in this region has resulted in deadly clashes in rural areas surrounding Dhusamareb.

On Sunday, July 9, at least five people lost their lives in Lebi Caano, a town located approximately 35 kilometers from Dhusamareb. Just last month, violent confrontations continued between Dhusamareb and Adado, resulting in the deaths of at least eight individuals and leaving over 10 others injured. These clashes were fueled by disputes over land ownership and the control of villages in the rural areas.

Disturbing reports from residents in the area indicate a significant escalation of hostilities in the past three weeks, with clashes spreading to the village of Shuriye Jige near Gadoon in the Galgadud region.

Abdirahman Moalim Geeda-Qorow, the Dhusamareb District Commissioner in the Galmudug administration, expressed his deep concern about the escalating violence rooted in clan conflicts driven by a scramble for resources and power.

Sources from the region have revealed that the training of militias and the influx of weapons from Mogadishu to the Galgadud region have intensified, exacerbating the inter-clan fighting.

Merely a week ago, over 100 men, allegedly new recruits of the national intelligence agency (NISA), were transported from Dhusamareb to Mogadishu to undergo training and receive weapons, with the possibility of returning to the region.

Clan leaders in the area believe that the director of Somalia’s national intelligence, Mahad Salad, continues to arm his fellow clansmen to overpower rival clans in the region. Just on Tuesday, members of the Duduble clan elders held a widely reported press conference in Mogadishu, where they expressed concerns about the safety of their men traveling within the region.

“Our clansmen are unable to travel safely from Dhusamareb to other destinations. We have been restraining ourselves, but now we feel pushed to our limits,” warned the clan elders.

Adding to the growing concerns, clan elders in the region have raised the issue that the new military base funded by the European Union might be utilized to harbor clan militias favored by Dhusamareb, potentially exacerbating the violence in the region.

Despite the mounting apprehensions expressed, the European Union in Somalia persists with its course of action, without fully acknowledging the potential ramifications and the burden placed on European taxpayers.

As the European Union forges ahead with its plans, it is the local population who remain vigilant about the potential consequences for the region, which are now shrouded in uncertainty.

DHUSAMAREB (KAAB TV) – The flow of arms and militias into the Galgadud region persists, fueling ongoing violence as heavy fighting broke out once again between rival militias in areas between Dhusamareb and Adado on Wednesday, resulting in the deaths of at least eight people and leaving over 10 injured, as reported by local residents and officials.

The conflict between the Ayr and Saleban tribal militias centers around disputes over land ownership and the control of villages in the rural areas.

According to local authorities, the hostilities initially erupted on Sunday, June 25, claiming the lives of four individuals and injuring eight others.

The fighting reignited on Wednesday after both tribal militias received additional weaponry and reinforcements.

Sources indicate that arms from Mogadishu arrived in Dhusamareb, with reports suggesting that the commander of NISA, Mahad Salad, is providing support to the Ayr militia in their confrontation against the Saleban militia.

Dhusamareb District Commissioner in the Galmudug administration, Abdirahman Moalim Geeda-Qorow confirmed that injured fighters from one of the militias were transported from the battlefield to Dhusamareb city, the capital of Galmudug, during Wednesday afternoon.

Local journalists have also verified that four injured members of the Saleban clan militia are currently receiving treatment at the Adado district hospital.

Residents in the area reported a significant escalation of hostilities on Wednesday afternoon, with clashes spreading to the village of Shuriye Jige near Gadoon in the Galgadud region.

Eyewitnesses noted the exchange of heavy weapons fire between the two tribal militias residing in the rural village of Ilix.

As of Wednesday evening, the Galmudug authorities have not issued a statement regarding the conflict in the Dhusamareb areas.

This clan-based conflict in Galmudug marks the seventh front in the ongoing armed disputes involving rival Somali clans across the country since early May of this year. With the backing of high-ranking government officials, these clans persistently vie for resources and power in various regions, including Lower Shabelle, Gedo, Hiiraan, and Bakool.

These clashes occur against the backdrop of constant power struggles between the federal government in Mogadishu and the federal member states, with similar dynamics playing out among clans and factions within the member states themselves.

MOGADISHU (KAAB TV) – The deputy district commissioner of Wanla-Weyn, Hashim Mohamed Shareero, met a tragic end in an ambush near Bulo Hansho village while returning from Mogadishu on Friday night, as confirmed by local officials.

Wanla-Weyn which is a strategic town on the main road to Baidoa is about 90km (55 mi) from the capital, Mogadishu.

Reports indicate that a clan militia blocked the main road between Wanla-Weyn and Afgooye during the incident. Disturbingly, the armed clan militia singled out the deputy commissioner before shooting him at a point-blank range causing his immediate demise, according to Abdihakin Abdullahi, the District Commissioner of Wanla-Weyn.

“We are sending our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of The deputy district commissioner of Wanla-Weyn, Hashim Mohamed Shareero. May he rest in peace,” the Wanla-Weyn District Administration wrote on their Facebook page.

The militia not only targeted the deputy commissioner but also looted a significant cache of weapons and ammunition from the convoy destined for Wanla-Weyn.

According to local security sources, the arms and ammunition being transported from the Somali National Army storage in Mogadishu were diverted for the ongoing clan conflict in the Lower Shabelle region.

The influx of heavy machine guns and ammunition, diverted from the Somali military, is exacerbating the clashes between rival militias in Wanla-Weyn and Barawe. This has resulted in the loss of numerous civilian lives and the displacement of hundreds of people.

The situation has further escalated as gunmen have now barricaded the road connecting Afgoye and Wanla-Weyn, leading to a disruption in commercial transportation between the two towns.

Numerous drivers have reported being trapped due to the blockade, hampering the flow of goods and services in the area on Saturday.

The regional administration in Lower Shabelle has yet to provide a statement regarding these incidents.

MOGADISHU (KAAB TV) – At least 10 people have lost their lives, while an unknown number have been injured after gunfight erupted in Elbarde town of Bakool region, near the Somali border with Ethiopia on Wednesday, according to local residents.

The armed clash broke out between the Darwish forces and the military divided along clan lines. Darwish, predominantly from Rahanweyn is a police unit trained and equipped by the European Union, UK and U.N. through a joint police program while the military in Elbarde are composed of ethnic Ogaden and trained by Ethiopia.

The conflict escalated dramatically when a soldier from the Darwish force was shot by the military forces. The casualties of this fierce battle include combatants from both sides, as well as innocent civilians caught in the crossfire.

Frightened by the violence, civilians are fleeing the area, seeking safety elsewhere. Disturbing online videos have emerged, showing the bodies of deceased soldiers strewn across the streets.

The tension in Elbarde had been mounting recently after local clan elders rejected a newly appointed administration by the Southwest authorities in Baidoa. The control of Elbarde has been a subject of dispute between the Ogaden and Rahanweyn ethnic groups.

No official statements have been released by the military or Southwest authorities regarding the armed conflict in Elbarde or the underlying reasons that led to its eruption.

The residents of Ebarde town have been enduring severe humanitarian hardships as a result of an prolonged siege enforced by the al-Shabaab militant group since the entrance of government forces and allied Ethiopian forces into the town in 2018.

Wednesday’s clash follows closely on the heels of a similar outbreak of violence in Barawe, located in the Lower Shabelle region, where the Hawiye-dominated military units clashed with the Darwish forces of Rahanweyn from the Southwest, resulting in loss of life and property.

The conflict in Elbarde marks the fourth instance of ethnic warfare in Southwest Somalia, following previous conflicts in Marka, Yaaqbiriweyne, and the recent one in Barawe.

MOGADISHU (KAAB TV) – In a tragic turn of events, the Lower Shabelle region of Somalia witnessed a violent confrontation between two rival clans, resulting in the loss of at least 15 lives and leaving numerous civilians injured, according to locals and officials in the region.

The fierce gun battle erupted on Wednesday in Yaaqbiri Weyne, about 20km from Wanla Weyn town, according to local sources.

The warring factions of Shan Alemod and Galje’el militias, both of which had received reinforcements and weaponry, are fighting over resources and territorial control in the Yaaqbiri Weyne and Leego area.

Eyewitnesses in Leego reported that the bodies of fallen militia members remained scattered in the bush for a second day, indicating the seemingly insurmountable obstacles to achieving peace.

As a result, hundreds of families have been forced to flee their homes, fearing prolonged warfare. Meanwhile, injured civilians have been transported to hospitals in Mogadishu.

Authorities from the Wanla-Weyn district, located approximately 20 kilometers from the conflict zone, revealed that the clash ignited when one of the rival militias launched an attack on the town of Yaaqbiri Weyne. This move led to a fierce clash between the two opposing groups, exacerbating the already volatile situation.

Officials in Baidoa and Mogadishu have not yet commented on the deadly fighting which continued sporadicly since the end of last year.

Alarming reports now indicate that the warring militias have acquired weapons and ammunition from Somali military storage facilities in Mogadishu. These supplies were ostensibly intended for their participation in the military offensive against al-Shabaab.

Arms dealers in Mogadishu have corroborated these claims, noting a decrease in the prices of weapons and ammunition in the city’s black market due to the influx of illicitly diverted military resources.

The situation in the Lower Shabelle region remains dire, with the ongoing violence and the already dire humanitarian conditions threatening the lives and livelihoods of countless innocent civilians.

Mogadishu (KAAB TV) – At least 16 people were killed in Lower Shabelle region as two rival clan militia engage a deadly gun battle in narrow alleyways in and around the outskirts of Wanla-weyn district, some 90 km (55 miles) from Mogadishu on Friday.

The fierce fighting broke out on Friday a day after the two heavily armed militia received more weapons from Mogadishu and Baidoa giving them the will to extend the fighting. More than 10 of those killed are from the two warring groups, residents said.

The two militia groups from the rival clans have been clashing recently over the ownership and control of the territory and resources in the area.

Lower Shabelle authorities have confirmed the death of the death of European Union-trained Darwish police commander in the region, Mr. Huufow.

Residents said Mr. Huufow was killed during the fighting.

“We confirm the death of Darwish police commander who was among the militia fighting during yesterday’s [Friday] gun-fight,” said Wanla-Weyn resident, Mohamud Nur.

Innocent civilians cowered in their homes, seeking shelter from the crossfire that threatened to claim their lives while some of the residents have now started fleeing the area for their safety.

Locals are now saying tension remains high as the two warring groups are receiving reinforcements of militia and weapons.

Lower Shabelle regional authorities have not intervened in the fighting, which worsens the conflict in the Wanlaweyn district of the Lower Shabelle region.
