According to reports, this bombardment was part of an artillery attack launched by Al-Shabaab this morning against Puntland military positions in Galgala, with an artillery exchange between the two sides lasting several minutes.

Other casualties resulting from the clash remain unconfirmed, particularly regarding the extent of casualties among Puntland security forces and Al-Shabaab fighters.

This attack comes days after Puntland security forces executed counter-insurgency operations targeting Al-Shabaab in the Cal Madow mountains.

Puntland forces recently announced the elimination of four men suspected of belonging to Al-Shabaab, accused of planting improvised explosive devices (IEDs) along supply routes utilized by security forces in the Galgala mountains.

According to military officials, an IED blast linked to the group previously caused the death of a prominent local elder in Galgala, while several soldiers were also killed and wounded.

Officials further stated that Puntland forces subsequently conducted a sweeping operation in the area, killing two members who were reportedly wounded in a prior airstrike there.

The Cal Madow mountains have served as a stronghold for Al-Shabaab militants for years, with Puntland forces maintaining active operations intended to degrade the group’s operational capabilities.

Puntland has also officially announced Operation Unkod, aimed at neutralizing Al-Shabaab insurgent networks entrenched across the mountainous Calmadow terrain.
