Awdheegle (KAAB TV) – New details have emerged about the casualties resulting from a powerful attack carried out by Al-Shabaab this morning in Awdheegle district, Lower Shabelle region. Al-Shabaab forces targeted a vehicle laden with explosives at a government base in the district, which led to an ensuing face-to-face battle. A brief statement issued by Somalia’s federal government confirmed that Somali National Army (SNA) troops successfully thwarted the attack. The statement praised the bravery of the forces involved in defending the Awdheegle base.

“The Somali National Army has bravely repelled an attack attempt by the Khawarij (Al-Shabaab militants), who sought to disrupt the peace in Awdheegle district,” the statement read.
