MOGADISHU (Kaab TV) – The African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) has welcomed a new contingent of Ghanaian police officers deployed to Somalia to support security operations and strengthen the capacity of the country’s law enforcement institutions.

The newly deployed unit, known as GFPU-5, has been stationed in Mogadishu, Baidoa, and Beledweyne, where its members will work alongside the Somali Police Force in joint operations, specialized training programs, and advisory roles.

AUSSOM said the new contingent is replacing the outgoing GFPU-4 unit, which recently completed its deployment after contributing to security operations and police support efforts across Somalia.

AUSSOM Police Coordinator ACP Dr. Samuel Asiedu Okanta urged the newly arrived officers to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, and conduct throughout their mission in Somalia.

He emphasized that the unit’s role is critical to ongoing efforts aimed at strengthening the capabilities of the Somali Police Force and supporting Somalia-led initiatives to promote peace, security, and long-term stability.

The Ghanaian deployment forms part of AUSSOM’s broader mandate to assist Somalia in improving security, enhancing law enforcement capabilities, and building resilient state institutions capable of maintaining public safety.

Somalia continues to benefit from the support of AUSSOM military and police personnel, who play a key role in security operations, training local forces, and supporting the country’s efforts to strengthen its security sector and stabilize areas affected by conflict.
