Mogadishu (Kaab TV) — Somali government forces, supported by international partners, have killed at least 150 Al-Shabab militants during military operations that have been ongoing for more than two weeks in Somalia’s Middle Shabelle region, Defense Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi said Tuesday.

Fiqi said the operations targeted the Jabad Godane area and surrounding locations, describing them as key militant strongholds. He added that those killed included six senior Al-Shabab commanders.

“By the grace of God and the bravery of the National Army, and with the support of our international friends, we have cleared the Khawarij enemy from the Jabad Godane area,” Fiqi said. “Between 120 and 150 militants were killed in these operations, including six leaders.”

The defense minister said the Middle Shabelle campaign is part of a broader offensive against Al-Shabab that has inflicted heavy losses on the group in southern Somalia as well. He pointed to recent fighting in the Kudhaa area of the Lower Juba region, where officials said more than 200 militants were killed after government and allied forces repelled a prolonged assault.

Fiqi praised the performance of elite Danab units and Jubbaland forces in Kudhaa, saying the outcomes in both Middle Shabelle and Lower Juba demonstrate the growing capabilities of Somalia’s armed forces.

“These victories show that the National Army is capable of defending the country,” he said, dismissing critics who have questioned the army’s strength and cohesion.

He also thanked Türkiye and the United States for their support, noting that it included airstrikes, intelligence assistance, and military equipment used during the operations.

Al-Shabab has not commented on the reported casualty figures. The group frequently carries out large-scale attacks on military bases and towns but rarely acknowledges losses claimed by government officials.

The fighting comes as Somalia intensifies its campaign against the al-Qaida-linked group across central and southern regions, aiming to dismantle remaining militant strongholds and consolidate gains made by federal forces and allied local militias.

KISMAYO (Kaab TV) – The Jubbaland Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs has urgently appealed to international aid agencies after Al-Shabaab attacks triggered a severe humanitarian crisis in Kudha village, Badhaadhe District.

According to the Ministry, the attacks have had a devastating impact on the local population, affecting nearly 5,200 households, while around 3,500 people have been displaced.

The displaced families are currently facing extremely harsh living conditions and are in urgent need of clean drinking water, food assistance, medical care, and emergency shelter.

The Ministry’s report further noted that the situation deteriorated significantly after one of the village’s hand-dug wells was destroyed, leaving residents without access to safe and reliable water sources. In addition, the attacks resulted in civilian casualties, including deaths and injuries.

The Jubbaland Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management stated that it is closely monitoring the situation and stands ready to coordinate and facilitate humanitarian response efforts by organizations assisting the affected population.

The emergency appeal highlights four critical priority needs:

Clean water – including emergency water trucking and immediate access to safe drinking water.

Food assistance – to prevent hunger and malnutrition among vulnerable families.

Shelter and protection – to ensure the safety, dignity, and basic living conditions of displaced persons.

Health services – including the delivery of medical equipment, supplies, and sustained healthcare support to the affected area.

The Ministry concluded by calling on all humanitarian partners to respond swiftly to this appeal, in order to alleviate the suffering of the people of Kudha village and help restore hope and a more secure future for the affected communities.

Mogadishu (Kaab TV) – Experts from the United Nations have stated that the Al-Shabaab group remains the greatest threat to peace and stability in Somalia and the wider Horn of Africa region, particularly Kenya.

The experts emphasized that despite ongoing efforts by the Somali government forces and international partners to combat the Al-Qaeda-linked group, Al-Shabaab still has the capacity to carry out complex, well-planned attacks inside Somalia.

They noted that the threat posed by Al-Shabaab is not limited to direct attacks, such as attempted assassinations of senior government officials, but also extends to widespread networks involving extortion, forced recruitment, and well-organized propaganda used to spread the group’s ideology.

In light of these security challenges, the United Nations Security Council voted to extend the mandate of the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia until 31 December 2026. The force consists of more than 11,000 personnel, including 680 police officers.

Meanwhile, the experts warned that Al-Shabaab poses a serious threat to Kenya, pointing out that the group carries out attacks ranging from improvised explosive device (IED) bombings to kidnappings.

On average, Al-Shabaab carries out nearly six attacks per month in Kenya, most of which occur in the Mandera and Lamu regions.

Finally, the report stated that Al-Shabaab’s primary objective is to overthrow the Federal Government of Somalia and expel foreign forces supporting the government.

Middle Shabelle (Kaab TV) – New details are emerging about the losses resulting from a series of bomb attacks launched early this morning by Al-Shabaab on government and pro-government forces’ bases in the Nuur Dugle area of Middle Shabelle. The bombings were followed by intense direct clashes.

Reports indicate that Al-Shabaab carried out a heavy attack on the area, where government forces and allied militias had been stationed in recent days. This led to a direct confrontation between the two sides.

Local sources told the media that the bombings and subsequent clashes caused casualties, including deaths and injuries, though the full extent of the losses has not yet been confirmed.

Fighting between the attackers and government forces is still ongoing in the area, spreading to other parts of Middle Shabelle.

According to reports, Al-Shabaab fighters are pressing their attack strongly, attempting by all means to overrun the government positions to seize control. However, government forces are resisting the assault.

The Somali government has stated that its forces have repelled the attack and inflicted heavy losses on the attackers.

Al-Shabaab has previously seized key areas in Middle Shabelle and continues to expand its presence in several parts of the region under the HirShabelle administration.

Currently, major operations are underway in both Shabelle regions targeting Al-Shabaab militias, following pressure on areas previously captured by the group near towns bordering the capital, Mogadishu.

Mogadishu (Kaab TV) – Somali army guards shot and killed a suicide bomber who attempted to enter General Dhagabadan military camp in Mogadishu late Wednesday, averting what officials described as a potentially large-scale attack.

According to the Somali National Army, the attacker approached the camp’s main gate wearing an explosive vest and tried to blend in with a line of soldiers. Guards became suspicious and opened fire, killing him before he could detonate the device.

Several members of the camp’s security detail sustained injuries during the incident, though the army did not disclose the exact number of wounded or the severity of their injuries.

Army officials said the swift response prevented the bomber from reaching densely populated areas of the base, which houses active troops and serves as one of the country’s primary training centers for new recruits. The command commended the guards for maintaining heightened vigilance amid repeated threats.

General Dhagabadan has long been a high-value target for al-Shabab, which has carried out multiple bombings at or near the facility.

In November 2022, a suicide bomber detonated an explosive at the camp’s front gate, killing at least a dozen people and injuring 11, according to state media.

Witnesses reported that they saw several lifeless bodies, and residents reported hearing multiple smaller explosions following the initial blast.

That attack occurred weeks after another bomber, disguised as a soldier, joined a line of recruits before detonating, killing one soldier and wounding several others.

In June 2021, at least 20 people were killed in a suicide bombing at the camp, and another attack three months later left only the bomber dead after he detonated his device before reaching his intended target.

The camp’s strategic importance has increased following the European Union’s decision in July 2024 to inaugurate new facilities at the site, including modern shooting ranges and multi-purpose training tracks funded through the European Peace Facility, which has allocated €110 million to support the Somali National Army.

Authorities said investigators are reviewing the incident and assessing whether the attacker had accomplices or support networks in the area.

Mogadishu (Kaab TV) – Somalia’s presidential envoy for countering extremist ideology has rejected reports claiming that the federal government is engaging in secret negotiations with al-Shabab, describing the allegations as false and deliberately misleading.

Aweys Mohamed Omar stated on Thursday that the government has never held discussions with the militant group and has no plans to do so.

The claims, which circulated widely on social media and appeared in several local media outlets, suggested informal contacts were taking place.

Omar said these reports are intended to erode public trust in the government’s ongoing military and ideological campaign against al-Shabab.

He emphasized that Somalia’s position remains firm: dismantling extremist ideology, confronting terrorist threats, and continuing security and prevention operations across the country.

Omar warned that spreading unverified information risks creating confusion and undermining the progress made by Somali forces and community partners in recent operations.

According to the envoy, those circulating the rumors aim to disrupt security and distort the achievements in rebuilding national institutions and strengthening defense capabilities.

He stressed that the government and Somali citizens share a common goal: defeating al-Shabab and preventing the spread of violent extremism.

Omar added that security agencies and government ministries are working together to protect the country and counter ideologies that threaten state-building efforts.

The government has repeatedly insisted that al-Shabab, an al-Qaida affiliate responsible for attacks across Somalia for more than 15 years, must be confronted through military action, ideological resistance, and financial disruption—not negotiation.
