The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) said on Friday that the operation was conducted in coordination with international partners in the (Buq Aqable) area, where al-Shabab was mobilizing new fighters.

NISA identified the injured commanders as Ali Hussein, described as a militia leader responsible for attacks in central Somalia; Mowliid Jiis, the group’s representative in Bulo Burde district; and Mohamed Hiiran, identified as al-Shabab’s representative in Jalalaqsi district.

According to the agency, the officials had been under surveillance for an extended period before the strike was carried out.

NISA also stated that the operation damaged facilities and vehicles used by the group. Follow-up operations destroyed five vehicles, including three combat vehicles.

The agency said one of the vehicles was equipped with a 39 mm anti-aircraft gun.

NISA described the operation as part of ongoing efforts to weaken al-Shabab’s capacity to organize attacks against civilians and government targets.

Al-Shabab, which is affiliated with Al-Qaida, continues to carry out attacks in central and southern Somalia despite sustained military pressure from Somali forces and international partners.

Hiiran remains a key battleground in the government’s campaign against the group, with repeated operations conducted around Bulo Burde, Jalalaqsi, and nearby areas.

The operation targeted members of Al-Shabaab who were reportedly involved in harassing and harming local residents.

According to a statement issued by Somalia’s Ministry of Defense, the operation—conducted by Danab units—was successful.

Two Al-Shabaab members were captured, both suspected of being involved in extortion, intimidation, and abuses against civilians.

The statement added that one of the detainees, identified as Zakariye, was found during investigations to be the son of Macallin Cabdirahman, a well-known Al-Shabaab commander who is still being pursued by security forces.

Additionally, the Danab forces reported seizing a motorcycle used by Al-Shabaab for their activities, along with weapons and other materials believed to have been intended for carrying out terrorist acts against civilians.

In conclusion, the Ministry’s statement emphasized that Somali military officials will continue their sustained efforts to eliminate the Al-Shabaab group and strengthen the security and safety of the Somali people.
