Nigerian Troops Kill Eight Islamic State Fighters in Borno Ambush, Military Says

ABUJA (KAAB TV) – Nigerian troops killed eight fighters, including senior commanders, from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) during an ambush along a key supply route in the northeast, the military said on Tuesday.

The clash occurred early on Monday near Garin Giwa on the Baga-Cross Kauwa road in Borno state, an area frequently targeted by insurgents aiming to disrupt military operations.

ISWAP fighters attempted to ambush a patrol and troops were able to repel the attackers, the army said in a statement.

Among those killed were ISWAP senior field commander Abu Aisha, Qaid of Tumbun Mota, and two mid-level commanders, known as Munzirs. Several other militants fled with gunshot wounds, according to the statement.

Militants from Boko Haram and its splinter group ISWAP have caused thousands of deaths, widespread displacement and a deepening humanitarian crisis in northeast Nigeria during their attacks on security forces and civilians.

Nigerian Airstrike Kills Over 15 Militia In Sambisa Forest Hideout

ABUJA (KAAB TV) – Nigeria’s air force killed more than 15 Islamist militia fighters in an airstrike on a their hideout around the Sambisa forest in the northeastern Borno state, a spokesperson said on Thursday.

Nigeria has faced a 16-year Islamist insurgency in the northeast led by Boko Haram and its offshoot ISWAP, causing mass casualties, displacement and a deepening humanitarian crisis.

Deadly Flooding in Nigeria’s Niger State Claims Over 100 Lives

ABUJA (KAAB TV) – Devastating floods have killed at least 117 people in Nigeria’s north-central Niger State, following days of heavy rainfall that destroyed homes and displaced residents. The disaster has also left several individuals unaccounted for, according to an emergency official.

Ibrahim Hussaini, Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), confirmed the updated death toll on Friday, a sharp increase from the 21 fatalities reported just a day earlier. He noted that the flooding has particularly affected two communities, where over 50 houses were completely submerged.

Search and rescue operations are ongoing, and emergency services are working to locate those still missing. The full extent of the damage is yet to be determined, but authorities warn that further rainfall could worsen the situation.

Hussaini urged residents in flood-prone areas to evacuate to safer ground and called on the federal government and humanitarian agencies for urgent support in providing relief materials and shelter for the displaced.

Flooding is a recurrent issue in Nigeria during the rainy season, often exacerbated by poor drainage systems, inadequate infrastructure, and climate change-related weather extremes.
