Somalia’s Federal Government says a coordinated airstrike carried out with one of its international security partners has killed 26 Al-Shabaab fighters in the Middle Shabelle region as military operations against the militant group continue across central and southern Somalia.
In a statement, the government said the precision strike targeted Al-Shabaab positions in the areas of Cadow Jilib, Gayfo, and Qoordheere, describing the operation as carefully planned and successfully executed.
Authorities said the airstrike also destroyed an “Abdi Bile” military vehicle and a fuel tanker allegedly being used to supply the militant group.
The Ministry of Defence said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to degrade Al-Shabaab’s operational capabilities and disrupt its logistics network.
The ministry praised the Somali National Army and its international partners for the operation, reaffirming that military pressure against the group would continue until areas under Al-Shabaab control are recaptured.
The latest strike comes as Somali security forces, backed by international partners, continue ground offensives and air operations across Hirshabelle, South West, Galmudug, and Jubbaland states.
The government says the campaign is aimed at eliminating Al-Shabaab strongholds, cutting supply routes, and restoring state authority in areas long controlled by the militant group.
