Residents of Mogadishu’s Bondhere district have raised serious complaints over alleged land grabbing, intimidation and pressure related to their homes and properties, with some families claiming they are being forced to pay large sums of money to avoid demolition or eviction.

According to local residents, individuals accused of involvement in land disputes have allegedly demanded substantial payments from property owners.

Some residents claim they have been asked to pay as much as $30,000 to prevent the destruction of their homes, while others say they were ordered to pay up to $18,000 even after their properties had already been demolished.

The allegations have sparked concern among families in the district, particularly low-income households that say they cannot afford such payments.

Many residents fear they could lose their homes and livelihoods if they fail to meet the demands.

Residents argue that any disputes over land or property ownership should be resolved through legal channels, including government institutions and the courts, rather than through intimidation, threats or forced actions against homeowners.

The situation has reportedly created widespread uncertainty and anxiety among families in Bondhere, with many expressing concern about the future of their properties.

Residents are calling on the Federal Government and the Banadir Regional Administration to urgently investigate the allegations and ensure the protection of citizens and their assets.

They are also demanding clarity on who is allegedly collecting the money, who is ordering the demolition of homes, and whether any court rulings or legal documents exist to justify the actions being taken.

If the allegations are confirmed by the relevant authorities, the case could amount to serious violations requiring legal action and accountability for anyone found to have unlawfully threatened residents or interfered with private property rights.

Residents of Bondhere have urged government institutions, security agencies and the Banadir administration to intervene immediately, conduct a transparent investigation, and guarantee the protection of citizens’ rights and property.
