Baidoa (KAAB TV) – The administration of South West Somalia has announced a series of decisive measures aimed at curbing inter-clan violence and holding accountable those responsible for inciting conflict, spreading hatred, and encouraging revenge killings across its territories.
Senior officials from the South West State government, including the Minister of Interior, Local Government, and Reconciliation, confirmed that the administration has intensified its peace and reconciliation initiatives.
These efforts involve close engagement with traditional elders, religious leaders, and community representatives to resolve long-standing disputes and restore stability in affected regions.
According to the Minister, the government has identified individuals — some residing outside the immediate conflict zones — who have been disseminating inflammatory and misleading information through social media and other communication channels.
These actions, officials say, have significantly contributed to escalating tensions and undermining peace efforts.
“The government is committed to restoring peace and strengthening the reconciliation of fraternal communities. Anyone who spreads hatred or incites violence will face justice,” the ministry’s statement declared.
In a related development, the Ministry of Interior confirmed that a preliminary peace agreement has been reached to end the recent clashes in the Dinsoor district of the Bay region.
The fighting reportedly involved rival militias engaged in communal disputes over local resources and historical grievances.
The ministry emphasized that the South West administration will continue to monitor and pursue those attempting to divide communities or reignite old conflicts.
It reaffirmed that promoting peace and reconciliation remains a top priority for both the regional leadership and local security institutions.
The South West government has called upon citizens in all regions under its jurisdiction to actively support ongoing peace initiatives and cooperate with security agencies.
Residents are urged to report any individuals or groups attempting to incite violence, spread misinformation, or provoke clan-based hostilities.
Officials reiterated that achieving lasting peace in South West Somalia requires collective responsibility and collaboration among government institutions, community leaders, and the public.
The administration pledged to continue facilitating dialogue, supporting local reconciliation committees, and addressing the root causes of inter-clan tensions, including competition over land, water, and political representation.
As the South West State strengthens its conflict resolution mechanisms, it remains focused on ensuring justice, promoting unity, and safeguarding the stability of all its districts — from Baidoa to Dinsoor and beyond.
