South West President Urges Unified Effort to Strengthen Security for Development

The President of the South West State of Somalia, H.E. Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed Laftagareen, has called on citizens and security forces to prioritize the strengthening of security

Baidoa (KAAB TV) – The President of the South West State of Somalia, H.E. Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed Laftagareen, has called on citizens and security forces to prioritize the strengthening of security across the region to facilitate the safe movement of people and goods and to create an environment conducive to development.

Speaking at an official event marking the conclusion of Peace Week in the South West, President Laftagareen emphasized that sustainable investment, business growth, and educational development can only be achieved if the region first secures lasting peace and stability.

“Security is the foundation of all progress. Before we talk about economic development or educational opportunities, we must first establish a safe and stable environment,” the President stated.

President Laftagareen also condemned the extremist group Al-Shabaab, referring to them as the primary obstacle to peace and governance in the region.

He praised the bravery and commitment of the region’s security forces and communities who have continuously worked together to push back against threats and preserve order.

“The wisdom of peace must reach every Somali citizen. Our nation has long suffered from the influence of misguided individuals and those who work against peace.

These forces have become a barrier to governance and development, but they can and will be overcome through unity and collective effort,” he said.

In his closing remarks, the President stressed that the insights and commitments expressed during Peace Week must now be translated into tangible, long-term policy and action.

He urged all stakeholders — from government institutions to local communities — to work hand in hand to implement meaningful change.

“It’s not enough to talk about peace — we must institutionalize it. The discussions we’ve had during Peace Week should serve as a launchpad for practical steps that will ensure lasting security and stability for our people,” he concluded.

The event was attended by regional officials, community leaders, security personnel, and civil society representatives, all of whom pledged continued collaboration in the pursuit of peace and progress in South West State.
