Somaliland President Offers Strategic Partnership to U.S. in New York Times Interview

|

Hargeisa (KAAB TV) – Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi (Cirro) recently gave an exclusive interview to The New York Times, in which he emphasized Somaliland’s strategic significance and its aspirations for international recognition.

In the interview, President Cirro described Somaliland as a sovereign and independent nation located in a geopolitically vital region. He highlighted the country’s wealth of natural resources, both on land and at sea, pointing to its untapped potential.

President Cirro also extended a significant offer to the United States: full access to the Berbera military base and airport. He noted that this facility is strategically located near the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden—areas critical to global trade and maritime security.

Cirro expressed confidence that former President Donald Trump, known for his business acumen and understanding of international economic opportunities, would support recognizing Somaliland’s independence.

As Somaliland continues its push for international recognition, President Cirro and his administration are encouraging the U.S. government to establish a military presence in Berbera. They hope this strategic partnership will pave the way for eventual formal recognition as an independent nation.
