HARGEISA (KAAB TV) – The Somaliland Coast Guard has issued a warning about severe storms expected to impact the Gulf of Aden, an area under Somaliland’s jurisdiction.
In an official statement, the Coast Guard urged fishermen, tourists, and residents living near the shoreline to take caution as weather conditions deteriorate.
“The Somaliland Coast Guard is warning all individuals working at sea—including fishermen and tourists—as well as anyone near coastal areas, to be alert to the dangers posed by incoming storms along parts of the country’s coastline,” the statement read.
The forecast also warns of extreme heat, with temperatures expected to reach up to 41°C, marking one of the hottest years recorded in coastal Somaliland.
Wind speeds are projected to range between 14 km/h and 45 km/h, indicating strong gusts that could pose serious risks to small boats and sea-goers.
Wave heights may reach up to 1.9 meters, driven by high winds and unstable weather conditions, making sea travel particularly dangerous during this period.
Additionally, coastal temperatures—especially in the eastern regions—are expected to range between 32°C and 41°C. Overall, temperatures across Somaliland’s cities and regions are significantly higher than in previous years.
The Coast Guard has urged the public to follow safety guidelines and remain informed through official weather updates.
