Mogadishu (KAAB TV) – Somalia has strongly rejected any proposals to resettle Palestinians on its territory, reaffirming its commitment to the Palestinian people’s right to live peacefully on their ancestral land.
Foreign Minister Ahmed Macalin Fiqi declared that Somalia will not tolerate any actions that would undermine the Palestinian state or allow its land to be used for the resettlement of others.
Fiqi’s statement comes amid reports that the United States and Israel have reached out to East African nations, including Somalia, Sudan, and Somaliland, to discuss evacuating people from Gaza. While Sudan has already rejected the idea, Somaliland has denied any official contact on the matter.
Somalia has long been a staunch supporter of Palestinian rights and independence, consistently aligning itself with the positions of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The foreign minister’s remarks underscore Somalia’s firm opposition to the forced displacement of Palestinians, a practice widely condemned by Arab nations as a form of genocide, according to reports from Al Jazeera and the Associated Press (AP).
This rejection of resettlement plans comes amid increasing concerns over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where ongoing Israeli military operations have displaced thousands of Palestinians. The proposal to resettle displaced individuals has sparked international alarm, with critics warning that such actions could permanently displace Palestinians from their homeland.
While diplomatic discussions continue, Somalia has made it clear that its territory will not be part of any resettlement efforts, reaffirming its strong support for the Palestinian cause.
