Mogadishu (Kaab TV) – The newly appointed Director-General of the Immigration and Naturalization Agency, MP Mustaf Ali Dhuhulow, officially assumed office today. Dhuxulow was appointed to the position last week, replacing the former Director-General, Ahmed Said Ahmed, who was dismissed by the Council of Ministers.
The handover ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, Minister of Security General Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail Fartaag, and other officials.
In his remarks, the new Director-General, Dhuhulow, pledged to revitalize the agency’s operations and introduce greater accountability.
“We will work hard to improve the immigration services, but also to bring accountability back to the institution,” MP Dhuhulow said.
Prime Minister Barre emphasized the critical role of the Immigration and Naturalization Agency in improving the Somali passport’s global competitiveness, aiming to make it comparable to modern passports worldwide.
“The new Director-General faces significant tasks, including enhancing the agency’s efficiency. As one of the top public service providers, the agency is a critical point of contact between the government and the Somali people,” the Prime Minister said during the handover ceremony.
On his part, the Security Minister, General Abdullahi Ismail Fartaag, expressed optimism about collaborating with the new Director-General to implement meaningful reforms.
“My ministry is looking forward to working with the new immigration director to make significant changes in the institution,” he said.
The outgoing Director-General, Ahmed Said, had previously faced accusations of corruption, human trafficking, and issuing passports to unauthorized individuals.
These allegations have resulted in Somali passport holders being denied visas to several countries, including Turkey, Italy, and the United States.
