MOGADISHU (KAAB TV) – The Federal Government of Somalia has officially filed a complaint against Kenya, describing it as an unauthorized violation of its airspace regarding the President of Jubbaland, Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Madobe) in the city of Nairobi, a plane owned by Kenya.

In a letter that has not yet been officially announced, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Somalia on Saturday called the Kenyan Ambassador to Somalia, Cyprian Kubai Iringo, to deliver an official letter of complaint about the incident from Kismayo to Nairobi, an act that is considered a violation of Somalia’s sovereignty.

The letter also demanded an explanation of what the Somali government said Kenya had facilitated for “a fugitive from the Somali government” to enter its territory. He was elected as the leader of Jubbaland in November 2024 in a vote that Somalia refused to recognize.

The Somali government has already imposed a travel ban on President Madobe when the Jubbaland forces clashed with the forces of Somalia who are fighting for control of parts of the region.

The Kenyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs has given the Kenyan government two days to respond to the allegations. The letter is reported to have stressed Somalia’s commitment to protecting its territorial sovereignty, and Kenya has been asked to not be involved.

President Madobe’s direct flight to Nairobi comes at a time of heightened tensions between Mogadishu and Jubbaland, further complicating efforts to stabilize the region. and Kenya, which has already been embroiled in disputes over maritime boundaries and cross-border security issues.

Kenya has not yet given an official response to the Somali government’s complaint.
