Somalia Executes Three Al-Shabaab Militants Following Military Court Ruling

|

Mogadishu (KAAB TV) – Somalia’s armed forces carried out the public execution of three convicted Al-Shabaab members this morning at the General Kahiye Police Training School in Mogadishu. The execution was conducted under the supervision of military court officials and senior military personnel.

The individuals executed were identified as Qudama Hamze Yusuf Mohamed (known as Yahye), Abdi Hassan Roble (known as Afey), and Ibrahim Omar Shammoun (known as Huba). According to court documents, the men were found guilty of orchestrating deadly attacks targeting both civilians and members of the Somali National Army in Mogadishu and the Lower Shabelle region.

The Somali Military Court had sentenced the men to death after a trial in which it presented evidence linking them to numerous assassinations and terror plots carried out on behalf of the Al-Shabaab militant group, which remains active in various parts of the country.

While Somalia’s government has occasionally carried out capital punishment, such executions have significantly declined in recent years. Nevertheless, the military court continues to issue death sentences in cases involving terrorism, murder, and other serious crimes. Many individuals currently held in detention, including Al-Shabaab operatives and rogue soldiers convicted of murder, remain on death row awaiting the enforcement of their sentences.

This morning’s executions reflect the Somali government’s ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and enforce the rule of law amid persistent threats from insurgent groups.
