Somalia Drought Crisis: Over 7 Million People Facing Severe Hardship

|

Mogadishu (Kaab TV) – The Federal Government of Somalia has stated that approximately seven million people are facing shortages of water, food, and healthcare as a result of the severe drought affecting the entire country.

The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre, speaking at an event held in Mogadishu, said: “Seven million Somalis are tonight facing extremely harsh conditions marked by a lack of water, food, and access to healthcare.”

Prime Minister Hamza noted that appeals for assistance in response to the severe drought had been sent to countries with embassies in Somalia, but only a limited number had responded.

However, the Prime Minister did not specify what aid, if any, the Somali government had delivered to those affected by the drought, nor did he clarify why the limited support received from the international community had not been distributed.

He called on the Somali people, both inside the country and abroad, to take part in supporting those impacted by the devastating drought.
