The Federal Government of Somalia has strongly condemned the visit by an Israeli government official to the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, accompanied by Israeli security forces and groups described as extremist settlers, calling the move a serious violation of the sanctity of one of Islam’s holiest sites.

In a statement, Somalia said the visit constituted a grave provocation to Muslims worldwide and denounced it as an infringement on the religious and historical status of the holy site in Jerusalem.

As a member of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Somalia reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Palestinian people and protecting the historical and legal status of Islamic holy sites in Jerusalem.

The government also urged the international community and the United Nations Security Council to take measures to prevent similar incidents, ensure accountability for those responsible, and encourage all parties to exercise restraint while pursuing meaningful dialogue aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace based on international law and UN resolutions.

Somalia further reiterated its full solidarity with the Palestinian people and reaffirmed its support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

The government emphasized that the two-state solution remains the only viable path toward achieving lasting peace, security, and stability in the Middle East, while underscoring its commitment to international law, respect for state sovereignty and territorial integrity, and the peaceful resolution of disputes.
