Somalia Condemns Deadly Damascus Attack, Reaffirms Anti-Terror Stance

Somalia’s Federal Government has strongly condemned the deadly terrorist attack in the Syrian capital, Damascus, reaffirming its unwavering commitment to combating terrorism and violent extremism in all its forms.

In a statement issued today, the government expressed solidarity with the Syrian Arab Republic and its people, describing the attack as a heinous act that threatens regional and international peace and security.

Mogadishu extended its condolences to the families of those killed in the attack and wished a swift recovery to those injured. The government also called for the perpetrators to be identified, brought to justice, and held fully accountable.

“Somalia fully rejects all forms of terrorism and remains committed to supporting international efforts aimed at eliminating extremist violence and promoting peace, security, and stability,” the statement said.

The condemnation comes as Somalia continues its own long-running fight against the Al-Shabaab militant group, with authorities repeatedly emphasizing the need for stronger international cooperation to counter terrorism.

Somali officials have consistently argued that defeating extremist organizations requires coordinated regional and global efforts, intelligence sharing, and sustained support for countries confronting insurgencies.

The attack in Damascus has drawn widespread international condemnation, with several governments expressing solidarity with Syria and renewing calls for greater cooperation in the global fight against terrorism.
