Mogadishu (KAAB TV) – The Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy of Somalia has signed a landmark agreement with Turkey’s OYAK Company aimed at advancing Somalia’s fisheries sector—an initiative seen as vital to unlocking the country’s marine economic potential.

The agreement was signed by Somalia’s Minister of Fisheries and Blue Economy, Ahmed Hassan Aden, and representatives from Sermaye Yatırımları Anonim Şirketi, a subsidiary of the OYAK Group.

In a press release, the Ministry stated that the partnership is expected to significantly boost revenue from Somalia’s marine resources and create large-scale employment opportunities, particularly for Somali youth.

“Today I signed an important agreement between the Ministry of Fisheries and OYAK Company of Turkey, focusing on the development of Somalia’s fisheries. This partnership is of great importance to the advancement of our blue economy,” said Minister Ahmed.

He noted that the agreement outlines strategic investments in key areas such as fishing infrastructure, increased fish production, access to international markets, and the overall growth of Somalia’s fishing industry. Additionally, it includes initiatives to combat illegal fishing and ensure sustainable marine resource management.

The collaboration is seen as a major step toward revitalizing Somalia’s fisheries sector and creating long-term economic opportunities for the country.
