Mogadishu (KAAB TV) – The Minister of Defense of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, held a significant meeting with the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Somalia, H.E. Mohamed Al-Said Ahmed Al-Baz, alongside senior officers from the Egyptian Armed Forces.
The discussions centered on deepening bilateral military cooperation, with a particular focus on Egypt’s involvement in the AUSSOM (African Union-Somalia Security Operations Mission) initiative and strategies to intensify the ongoing campaign against the terrorist group Al-Shabaab (AS).
Minister Fiqi expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Egyptian government for its consistent support of Somalia’s security and stability. He underscored the critical importance of strong military ties between the two nations, especially in the face of growing regional security threats. “Egypt’s partnership plays a vital role in supporting Somalia’s efforts to eliminate terrorism and restore peace across the country,” he remarked.
Ambassador Al-Baz and accompanying Egyptian military officials reiterated Egypt’s commitment to Somalia’s security, emphasizing their readiness to collaborate in enhancing operational coordination and accelerating the campaign against Al-Shabaab insurgents.
This high-level meeting comes at a pivotal time, as Egypt has recently joined the newly formed AUSSOM mission, which began operations earlier this year as a successor to the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS). The AUSSOM mission aims to build on previous efforts by providing sustained support to Somali security forces in counterterrorism operations and state stabilization.
Both sides agreed to continue high-level engagements and technical collaboration to ensure the successful execution of joint military objectives, reflecting a shared vision for long-term regional peace and stability.
