Mogadishu (KAAB TV) – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Algerian President Abdulmajid Tabboun on Tuesday presided over the signing of a series of landmark bilateral agreements designed to strengthen cooperation between the two nations in key sectors, including education, energy, livestock, and agriculture.
The agreements mark a significant step toward enhancing economic ties, expanding trade, and promoting mutual development between Somalia and Algeria.
The accords, signed by the ministers responsible for Foreign Affairs, Education, Livestock, and Petroleum, lay the foundation for a long-term strategic partnership.
Under the new framework, both nations have committed to facilitating investment in oil and natural gas, boosting agricultural productivity, and encouraging the exchange of expertise in livestock management and sustainable farming practices.
The agreements are expected to create new avenues for economic growth and regional collaboration, aligning with broader African efforts to promote self-reliance and integration.
Among the newly introduced measures are revised travel arrangements for Somali diplomatic passport holders, who will now be eligible for entry visas upon arrival in Algeria. This initiative aims to streamline diplomatic mobility and strengthen institutional cooperation between Mogadishu and Algiers, further reinforcing the spirit of mutual trust and partnership.
Officials from both countries hailed the agreements as a major milestone in the evolution of Somali-Algerian relations. They underscored that the partnership reflects a shared commitment to African solidarity, economic empowerment, and continental unity.
The two presidents reaffirmed their dedication to promoting peace and sustainable development across Africa, emphasizing that cooperation among African nations remains central to achieving long-term stability and prosperity.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Algerian government and people for their “warm and fraternal welcome”, as well as for Algeria’s historic support for African independence and development.
He extended special gratitude to President Tabboun for granting 500 scholarships to Somali students, particularly in fields crucial to Somalia’s national progress such as agriculture, fisheries, and petroleum studies.
“Algeria’s investment in the education of Somali youth will have a lasting impact on our country’s progress,” President Hassan Sheikh said, describing the scholarship program as a symbol of enduring friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
The Somali leader also commended President Tabboun’s leadership in advancing the African Solidarity and Cooperation Fund, describing it as a visionary initiative that promotes continental unity and sustainable growth.
He affirmed Somalia’s readiness to engage with the fund to support its recovery and reform efforts, highlighting that African nations must work collectively to address shared challenges and build resilient economies.
President Mohamud’s visit to Algeria marks a new chapter in the relationship between the two countries. Both governments have pledged to deepen cooperation through economic partnerships, educational exchanges, and joint development projects aimed at fostering regional stability and prosperity.
As Somalia continues its journey of reconstruction and reform, the partnership with Algeria represents not only a diplomatic milestone but also a renewed commitment to the values of African unity, solidarity, and progress.
