Reports from Somalia’s Middle Shabelle region indicate that a member of the Somali National Army (SNA) was killed while traveling through the El Baraf area, in an incident that has sparked grief and calls for an investigation.
The deceased has been identified as Ahmed Shire Hussein, a soldier who reportedly served in the Somali National Army and had previously been deployed in Lower Shabelle, particularly in and around Wanlaweyn district.
According to reports, Ahmed Shire had been suffering from health problems for some time. Sources said he recently obtained leave from his military duties in Buurane and was traveling to reunite with his family while seeking rest and treatment for his condition.
Information circulating about the incident states that Ahmed Shire departed Buurane on Thursday and boarded a vehicle heading toward Buulo Burte.
However, the vehicle was reportedly stopped in the Ceel Baraf area, where armed men allegedly ordered passengers to disembark.
Witness accounts shared on social media claim that Ahmed Shire was singled out, taken away from the other passengers, and later killed.
A video purportedly showing aspects of the incident has circulated online, although its authenticity and the circumstances surrounding the killing have not been independently verified.
The case has drawn widespread attention after reports emerged regarding Ahmed Shire’s alleged final plea.
According to accounts shared online, he reportedly begged for his life, saying: “Please do not kill me. I am traveling to see my family because of my poor health.” The reported statement has generated strong emotional reactions among relatives, fellow soldiers, and members of the public.
Some reports have suggested that the killing may have been linked to a clan-related dispute or revenge motive.
