Mogadishu (KAAB TV) – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has extended his warm congratulations to his Tanzanian counterpart, Samia Suluhu Hassan, following her re-election as President of the United Republic of Tanzania.
In his official statement on Saturday, President Mohamud noted:
“I extend my sincere congratulations to Her Excellency Samia Suluhu Hassan on her re-election as President of the United Republic of Tanzania. Her victory reflects the trust and confidence that the Tanzanian people have placed in her leadership. Somalia looks forward to deepening our brotherly ties and advancing regional peace and prosperity.”
President Mohamud emphasised Somalia’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation with Tanzania, as well as enhancing collaboration on regional stability, trade, and development initiatives.
The announcement comes after Tanzania’s electoral authorities declared that President Samia Suluhu Hassan secured approximately 97.66 per cent of the vote in the presidential election held on 29 October 2025.
Her victory came in the context of a highly contentious electoral process: the main opposition parties were either barred from participating or their candidates were disqualified, and the election was followed by large-scale protests, violent clashes, reports of heavy security presence, and nationwide disruptions to internet and mobile communications.
Despite the elevated turnout figures—reportedly around 87 per cent of registered voters—the credibility of the process was questioned by observers and rights groups.
In this light, President Mohamud’s message not only affirms Somalia’s readiness to collaborate with Tanzania but also underscores the importance of sustaining peace, cohesion and inclusive governance in the region.
