Mogadishu (KAAB TV) – Somali Police Spokesman Abdifitah Adan held a press conference in Mogadishu today, revealing that individuals who were previously convicted and released under community agreements have returned to criminal activities, including violent acts against Somali citizens.
According to the spokesman, three suspects were apprehended early this morning in the Hamar Jajab district of the Banadir region.
The suspects, who were reportedly intoxicated, were caught stealing mobile phones and other belongings from residents. They also reportedly engaged in a fight over the distribution of the stolen items.
Spokesman Adan also addressed a recent incident that occurred on May 9 in the same district, where an individual was killed.
Both the suspect and the victim’s killer were arrested and are currently in police custody, awaiting prosecution.
In a separate incident, Adan detailed a brutal murder that took place yesterday in the Waliyow Adde area of Hodan district.
Colonel Abdukadir Hussein Igal was killed, and his body was reportedly burned in an attempt to destroy evidence.
Five suspects have been arrested and are strongly believed to be responsible for the murder.
Additionally, police have apprehended the main suspect in the murder of Feysal Abdullahi Takar, along with two accomplices allegedly involved in the crime.
Spokesman Adan concluded by urging the public not to assist in releasing murder suspects through bail or the surrender of property.
He emphasized that 70% of individuals accused of murder in Mogadishu had previously been imprisoned and later released through community-led initiatives or social agreements.
He called for adherence to proper legal processes to ensure justice and public safety.
