Somali Police Arrest Seven Youths for Endangering Public Safety in Mogadishu Playgrounds

Somali law enforcement authorities have confirmed the arrest of seven young individuals in Mogadishu for engaging in dangerous behavior in public recreational areas

MOGADISHU (KAAB TV) – Somali law enforcement authorities have confirmed the arrest of seven young individuals in Mogadishu for engaging in dangerous behavior in public recreational areas and sharing content on social media that promoted unsafe and unlawful actions.

According to a statement issued by the Somali Police Force, the arrests were carried out by officers from the Warta-Nabadda District Police Station following the circulation of disturbing video footage online. The videos showed the group involved in activities considered hazardous to public safety, including the use of knives and other dangerous objects in public playgrounds — areas typically reserved for sports and family recreation.

The videos sparked widespread concern among members of the public, many of whom took to social media to demand swift action from law enforcement. In response, the Warta-Nabadda police launched an immediate investigation that led to the successful identification and apprehension of the suspects.

“The use of knives and other dangerous tools is strictly prohibited in sports facilities, public parks, and any gathering places,” the police said in an official statement. “Such behavior not only endangers the individuals involved but also poses a serious threat to the safety of others in the community. Anyone found violating these regulations will face legal consequences in accordance with the Somali Penal Code.”

Authorities also issued a stern warning to the public, particularly targeting the youth, cautioning against the introduction of harmful items or illegal substances into stadiums and other communal spaces. Officials stressed that the government is committed to preserving public safety and will continue to take strong legal action against individuals who disrupt the peace or engage in criminal activities.

This incident highlights the growing concern around the misuse of social media by youth to promote or glorify dangerous behavior. Law enforcement agencies are working closely with digital monitoring teams to track and respond to online content that could incite violence or encourage public disorder.

The Somali Police Force reiterated its dedication to protecting the well-being of all citizens and maintaining order in public areas, urging families and community leaders to play a more active role in guiding young people toward responsible behavior.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing, and the detained individuals are expected to face charges under Somali law.
