Somali Opposition Leaders Hold Talks with Media on National Issues in Mogadishu

|

MOGADISHU (KAAB TV) – For the second consecutive day, leaders of the Somali opposition have gathered in Mogadishu, this time holding a special meeting with senior figures from media organizations operating in the capital.

According to sources, the opposition leaders are engaging with media executives on key national issues, including public policy, security, elections, and the role of independent media in shaping public discourse.

Former President of Somalia, Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, expressed concern to the media leaders over what he described as abuses by the executive branch of the Federal Government. He emphasized the crucial role of a free and independent press in fostering a democratic and stable society.

“A vibrant and independent media is essential for a society that values transparency, accountability, and freedom of expression,” said Sheikh Sharif.

Member of Parliament Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame, a prominent opposition figure, stated that the second day of their conference would also involve broader consultations with various segments of society.

“We engaged with the media to discuss the current state of the country and explore ways to resolve the political disagreements surrounding the transitional process,” said MP Abdirahman.

The meetings mark a significant step by the opposition to build dialogue around the country’s pressing challenges and seek inclusive solutions through engagement with both the media and the public.
