Mogadishu (KAAB TV) – A delegation led by Somalia’s Minister of Petroleum and Minerals, Dahir Shire Mohamed, boarded vessels today that are set to begin oil drilling operations in Somali waters, specifically in the Black Sea.
The minister, accompanied by a Turkish government delegation and the Chairman of the Somali Petroleum Authority, Abdulkadir Mohamed, also held a meeting with engineers and crew members aboard the Turkish oil drilling vessel Fatih. The ship has recently arrived in Somalia in preparation for the start of oil production.
Somalia’s oil exploration efforts, which began in late 2024, are now approaching completion.
Preliminary findings suggest the exploration has been successful, prompting the Turkish government to dispatch drilling ships to support the next phase of development.
