Somali National Army Conducts Major Raid Near Hudur, Kills Three Al-Shabaab Fighters, Wounds Over Ten

Mogadishu (KAAB TV) – The Somali National Army (SNA) has announced a successful overnight operation in the Moora-Gaabeey area, located approximately 37 km from Hudur, in the Bakool region.

According to a government statement aired on Somali National Television (SNTV), at least three Al-Shabaab militants were killed, and more than ten others were wounded during the strike.

The government described the attack as a “planned and targeted operation,” carried out by the 9th Battalion of the 60th Division of the Somali army.

In addition to inflicting casualties on the militants, the troops reportedly recovered a significant cache of equipment, including weapons and ammunition, which officials said belonged to the extremist group.

Brigadier General Mohamed Yariis Aden, commander of the 60th Division, stated that the mission forms part of a broader and sustained offensive to degrade Al-Shabaab’s infrastructure and strengthen security in the Bakool region.

He emphasized that the government remains committed to eliminating insurgent threats and protecting civilians.

This operation in Moora-Gaabeey comes amid intensified military pressure on Al-Shabaab in the Bakool region.

In earlier offensives, Somali forces have reportedly killed senior Al-Shabaab leaders, including a key commander known as Mohamed Abdi Mohamed “Goofoow”, in nearby localities.

The Defense Ministry has stated that such raids are part of a broader push to disrupt the group’s command structure, confiscate their weapons, and prevent them from re-establishing safe havens.

Moreover, the Bakool region has become increasingly significant in this campaign because, according to military sources, Al-Shabaab fighters—after suffering losses elsewhere—have shifted some of their operations to Bay and Bakool regions.

Hiiraan This relocation has prompted Somali forces to intensify ground operations in these areas.

By continuing coordinated, intelligence-driven operations like the recent Moora-Gaabeey raid, the Somali National Army aims to systematically weaken Al-Shabaab’s presence, deny them access to weapons and resources, and gradually restore security to areas long affected by insurgent violence.
