Somali Interior Minister Leads Peace and Reconciliation Talks in Wanlaweyn Following Clan Clashes

Mogadishu (KAAB TV) – Somali Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation, Ali Yusuf Ali (Hosh), convened a high-level meeting with traditional elders and political leaders representing the clans recently involved in violent clashes in Wanlaweyn district, located in the Lower Shabelle region.

The meeting, held as part of the government’s ongoing reconciliation initiatives, aimed to assess the security and humanitarian situation in the affected areas, advance peacebuilding efforts, and develop sustainable solutions to address the root causes of the inter-clan conflict.

During the discussions, participants exchanged insights on how best to strengthen social cohesion, prevent future disputes, and enhance cooperation between communities and local authorities.

The Minister reaffirmed the Federal Government of Somalia’s unwavering commitment to promoting peace and stability through inclusive dialogue and mutual understanding.

Minister Ali Hosh expressed his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and extended sympathy to those whose properties and livelihoods were destroyed in the recent clashes.

He emphasized that both Islam and Somali tradition uphold the sanctity of human life and call for forgiveness and reconciliation in times of conflict.

“The loss of life and destruction we have witnessed are deeply regrettable,” said Minister Ali Hosh. “Our faith and our culture teach us the value of life, unity, and forgiveness. It is our shared responsibility to uphold peace and protect our communities from further harm.”

He urged clan elders, community representatives, and political leaders to take a proactive role in promoting peace, resolving disputes through traditional mechanisms, and discouraging retaliation or violence.

The Minister also highlighted the importance of rebuilding trust among communities, supporting displaced families, and fostering economic cooperation to create a foundation for lasting stability.

The forum concluded with a joint commitment from all sides to strengthen collaboration between local communities and government institutions, promote continuous dialogue, and ensure that peace efforts in Wanlaweyn serve as a model for reconciliation across Somalia.
