MOGADISHU (KAAB TV) – General Nur Adan Nur, a former senior officer of the Somali armed forces who was serving as an adviser to a UAE-supported training program for Somalia’s military police, has been missing for a week.
Family sources confirmed that last week, as General Nur Adan Nur was preparing to travel through Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu, he was stopped by two officers from the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), identified as Xamdi Xasan and Axmed Cabdullaahi Beeryare.
“He was stopped while traveling. He was beaten and tortured. His phone and passport were confiscated. That was the last time anyone heard from him,” a person close to General Nuur’s family said.
A source at the Mogadishu airport confirmed the incident and saw NISA officers drag the former general out of the departure terminal.
General Nur Adan, who hails from the Harin clan of the Raxanweyn community, was among Somalia’s former military officers. He received professional training in combat skills and fighter aircraft operations in Egypt and Russia during the 1970s, at a time when Somalia was under military rule.
Since 2018, he had served as a military and training adviser, working with the Somali–UAE forces training program.
Earlier this month, the Somali Council of Ministers cancelled agreements between Somalia and the UAE, including the military training agreement.
The UAE had been providing salaries and support to more than 3,800 military police personnel responsible for securing Mogadishu.
Kaab TV has learned that the President of South West State, Abdiaziz Laftagareen, who is from the same clan as General Nuur Aadan Nuur, attempted to intervene in the case. However, sources said efforts to locate the general were unsuccessful.
His whereabouts remain unknown, and NISA has not issued any statement regarding the alleged abduction.
The family has expressed deep concern over General Nur’s condition.
