Libya (Kaab TV) — Abdisalam Ali, Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, held talks on Saturday in Tripoli with Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah aimed at deepening bilateral relations between the two countries, officials reported.
According to Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the discussions covered a range of issues, including security cooperation, migration management, the welfare and protection of Somali nationals in Libya, and broader coordination on regional diplomatic matters.
During the meeting, Abdisalam Ali also conveyed a message from Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, underscoring the need to strengthen structured collaboration and further expand diplomatic engagement between Mogadishu and Tripoli.
The talks come as both nations step up efforts to address irregular migration and disrupt human trafficking networks operating across their borders. Libya remains a major transit hub for migrants heading toward Europe, including thousands of Somalis who often endure perilous journeys facilitated by smuggling operations.
Somali authorities say cooperation with regional partners has recently intensified to curb irregular migration and improve the protection and voluntary repatriation of citizens abroad. In 2025 alone, more than 2,000 Somali migrants were returned from Libya, with additional repatriation efforts expected in the coming days through coordinated arrangements.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening diplomatic coordination, describing the partnership as part of wider efforts to promote regional stability and expand international cooperation.
