Somali Forces Conduct Major Ten-Day Anti-Al-Shabaab Operation in Lower Jubba

|

KISMAYO (KAAB TV) – A comprehensive military operation lasting ten days has been conducted across various areas under the jurisdiction of Jamame district in the Lower Jubba region.

The large-scale offensive targeted Al-Shabaab hideouts and aimed to restore stability and security in a region long plagued by militant activity.

The operation was spearheaded by Brigadier General Nur Mahad Hassan, Commander of the 43rd Division of the Somali National Army (SNA), in collaboration with Brigadier General Sadiq Mohamud Dhogor, Acting Commander of the Lower Jubba Regional Police Division.

These top-ranking officers coordinated the joint effort involving national and regional forces.

During the course of the operation, Somali forces successfully destroyed several Al-Shabaab command centers and safe havens.

The offensive focused on securing key villages along the banks of the Jubba River, particularly the areas of Sanguni, Musa Haji, Araare, Koban, and Bangeni. These villages lie close to Jamame, a strategically significant district still under Al-Shabaab control.

In addition to clearing known militant strongholds, the forces also carried out intensive security sweeps in surrounding areas including Jiibey, Malaley, Janale Jay, and Soo Marey. During these operations, a number of Al-Shabaab fighters were killed, others wounded, and several explosive devices planted by the group were safely defused before they could target civilians.

As part of the wider stabilization effort, troops reopened key roads that had been blocked by fallen trees and debris following recent floods. These roadways are essential for movement and supply lines. Moreover, new military outposts were established in the region to maintain security gains and to support ongoing counter-insurgency measures.

The operation was jointly conducted by units from the Somali National Army, Jubbaland regional forces, and the elite Danab Special Forces brigade. The Somali forces were also supported by international partners, with the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) providing critical air support.

AFRICOM launched a series of targeted airstrikes during the operation, striking Al-Shabaab compounds and gatherings of senior militant leaders. These precision airstrikes were instrumental in degrading the operational capabilities of the terrorist group in the area.

This offensive marks a significant escalation in the Somali government’s ongoing campaign to reclaim territories held by Al-Shabaab and to dismantle the group’s operational infrastructure in southern Somalia.
