Baidoa (Kaab TV) – Additional details have emerged regarding the clearance operations carried out by the Somali National Army, specifically the 8th Battalion of the 60th Division, in the area between the towns of Buurhakaba and Baidoa in the Bay region.
The operation reportedly targeted several locations and hideouts used by Al-Shabaab in areas between Buurhakaba and Baidoa, where the group had been known to harass and harm civilians.
Led by the Commander of the 8th Battalion of the 60th Division, Lieutenant Colonel Cali Mohamed Aadan, the forces also removed roadside bombs planted by Al-Shabaab along key routes, which posed a serious threat to civilians.
“The operation, which aimed at clearing out the Khawarij, allowed the forces to prevent ambushes the group had prepared for civilians and to remove landmines that would have endangered the lives of the people and the movement of vehicles,” the Federal Government said in a statement.
The commander of the 8th Battalion of the 60th Division stated that the operation concluded successfully and that efforts to ensure security throughout the Bay region will continue.
