Mogadishu (KAAB TV) – The Somali Embassy in Ankara, Turkey, has successfully coordinated the evacuation of a Somali national who sustained minor injuries during a recent Israeli airstrike in Tehran, Iran.
The injured citizen, identified as Dr. Mustafa Ali Macalin, is a Somali medical doctor who had been pursuing his studies in Iran. According to a statement issued by the Somali Embassy in Turkey, Dr. Mustafa is among a group of Somali students who had traveled to Iran for higher education.
Somali embassy officials confirmed that Dr. Mustafa’s injuries were not life-threatening and that arrangements were promptly made to relocate him to Turkey. From there, he is expected to return safely to Somalia.
The embassy expressed its appreciation to the Turkish government for its swift cooperation in facilitating Dr. Mustafa’s transfer. This assistance is part of an ongoing effort by Somali diplomatic missions to monitor and ensure the safety of Somali citizens in the region amid escalating tensions between Iran and Israel.
“In light of the deteriorating security situation in Iran, we are actively working to assist Somali nationals who feel unsafe,” said an embassy spokesperson. “Our priority is to ensure their safety and facilitate their return home if necessary.”
The Somali Embassy in Ankara has also issued a public advisory urging all Somali citizens residing in Iran to get in touch with the embassy should they wish to leave the country. A dedicated emergency contact number has been circulated via the embassy’s official social media channels.
Local sources, including Somali residents in Iran, reported that other Somali nationals may also have been affected by the recent airstrikes. Ahmed Abdi, a Somali resident of the central Iranian city of Qom, told the BBC that while the Somali population in Iran is small, it includes university students and entrepreneurs, some of whom were reportedly injured in the attacks.
As regional instability increases, Somali authorities continue to monitor developments closely and are calling for calm while encouraging Somali citizens in affected areas to remain in contact with diplomatic missions.
