Somali Danab Commandos and Jubbaland Intelligence Forces Conduct Major Anti-Al-Shabaab Operations in Lower Jubba

Lower Jubba (KAAB TV) – The Somali National Army’s elite Danab Commando Unit, in coordination with the Jubbaland Security and Intelligence Agency (JSIA) and supported by international partners, launched a series of large-scale joint operations against the Al-Shabaab militant group in the Jamame district of Lower Jubba region.

According to official reports from the Jubbaland regional administration, the operations targeted multiple Al-Shabaab hideouts in the areas of Korakhey, Siirey, Farbulay, Turdho, Yiirey, Janale Jaay, and Maleyley—all located within the Jamame district.

The coordinated air and ground raids led to the deaths of 18 Al-Shabaab militants, while 32 others sustained injuries during the intense clashes.

Security officials also confirmed the destruction of several militant hideouts, including underground tunnels and makeshift camps concealed in forested areas that the group had been using for logistical and training purposes.

“These operations demonstrate our continued commitment to eliminating terrorist strongholds and restoring peace and stability to the region,” a Jubbaland security official stated. “The cooperation between Somali forces, Jubbaland intelligence units, and our international allies is producing tangible results on the ground.”

Residents in nearby towns reported hearing heavy explosions and gunfire during the operation, which they said lasted several hours.

Security forces have since increased their presence in the liberated zones to prevent the militants from regrouping.

The Danab Commandos, trained and equipped with the support of the United States and other international partners, have been instrumental in leading precision counter-terrorism missions across southern Somalia.

These units work closely with regional administrations such as Jubbaland, one of Somalia’s five federal member states, to combat Al-Shabaab’s influence and reclaim territories under militant control.

Al-Shabaab, an extremist group affiliated with al-Qaeda, continues to pose a significant threat to Somalia’s stability, particularly in rural areas of southern and central regions.

Recent coordinated offensives by Somali government forces and their allies have considerably weakened the group’s operational capacity in several key areas.

The Jubbaland administration reiterated its commitment to sustaining pressure on Al-Shabaab and called on local communities to cooperate with security forces by reporting any suspicious activity.

Officials emphasized that continued collaboration between federal and regional security units is crucial to ensuring lasting peace and stability in the Lower Jubba region and beyond.
