Somali Correctional Force on High Alert Amid Al-Shabaab Threat to Mogadishu Central Prison

The Somali Correctional Force has raised its level of alert following credible intelligence reports indicating that the Al-Shabaab militant group is planning an attack on the Central Prison in Mogadishu.

MOGADISHU (KAAB TV) – The Somali Correctional Force has raised its level of alert following credible intelligence reports indicating that the Al-Shabaab militant group is planning an attack on the Central Prison in Mogadishu.

Sergeant Major Mahad Abdirahman Adan, the Commander of the Somali Correctional Force, confirmed during a press briefing that detailed information has been received about Al-Shabaab’s intentions to infiltrate the prison. Their objective, he said, is to facilitate the escape of detained operatives.

“The intelligence we have received is reliable and specific,” the Commander stated. “We are fully aware of the enemy’s plot and the routes they intend to use to break into the prison. Our forces are on full alert, and we will not allow their plan to succeed. If they attempt an assault, they will face a swift and decisive response.”

Commander Mahad emphasized the preparedness and morale of the correctional forces stationed at the facility, reiterating their determination to prevent any breach. He noted that security protocols have been reinforced to counter potential threats and that surveillance operations have been intensified in and around the prison.

In a strong message to the public, particularly individuals frequenting the vicinity of the Central Prison, the commander issued a warning. “We are closely monitoring all activities near the prison. Suspicious behavior will be investigated thoroughly. We urge civilians to remain vigilant and report any unusual movements or individuals in the area,” he said.

The commander also addressed an internal concern regarding the security posture of the prison guards. He cautioned against the excessive use of mobile phones by soldiers while on duty, highlighting that such behavior can create vulnerabilities that enemies may exploit.

“Our forces must remain disciplined, alert, and unified,” he said. “It is not the responsibility of the army to gather intelligence outside their purview. Their primary focus must be the safety and security of this facility. Lax behavior and divided attention can jeopardize our mission.”

In closing, Sergeant Major Mahad encouraged his troops to take responsibility for maintaining high standards within the force. He urged them to report any irregularities or operational challenges they observe so that necessary corrections can be made promptly.

“Reporting problems as they arise allows us to address weaknesses before they become threats. Together, we can strengthen the security of our critical national institutions,” the commander concluded.

The Somali Correctional Force continues to coordinate with other branches of the security services as part of a broader effort to thwart any terrorist threats and ensure national stability.
